“Damn. That explains the tears.”
“She was crying?” I snap my head up. I didn’t see any tears on her face; then again, I was too busy glaring down Cage to notice.
“Yeah. But she didn’t get into it. Then your ass came out and ripped into me.” That’s why she was hugging him. Damn. “You say the word, Dag, and I’ll do whatever is needed to get that father of hers dealt with. I still have a couple buddies inside, and I’m sure I could put in a call.”
After barking his head off, he doesn’t owe me any favors.
“I already spoke to King and he’s working on it. I owe you an apology, Cage. Shouldn’t have come at you like that and I’m sorry.”
He shakes his head, extending his hand for a shake. “Nah, it’s all good. You were just looking out for her. She’s in a fragile state and you were trying to protect her. You should know that I wouldn’t cross a line.”
I do know that. None of my brothers would cross a line, but all I saw were his arms wrapped around her and I lost my shit.
“I need to go talk to her. I’ll catch you later.”

Wynter
The door opens and I roll to my other side. I don’t want to talk to him.
“I’m sorry, Wyn.”
He should be sorry. Here I was having a moment with Cage, feeling like someone finally understood what I was going through, and Vale came and ripped it away.
The bed dips at my back and his wide palm comes down, bracing my hip. He’s trying to get me to face him, but I curl myself tighter into a ball.
“It’s not that I didn’t want you around tonight, Wyn.” His voice sounds heavy with regret. “You just looked tired at dinner and were yawning all the way home. I assumed you wanted to go to bed. But I should’ve asked if you wanted to hang out.”
“I’d like to get to know the guys better. I know nothing about your life here, Vale, or your friends.”
He tucks me in a bear hug and drags me toward him. His strength is no match for me.
“I want you to get to know them too.”
I glance over my shoulder. “It doesn’t seem like that’s the case. You won’t even let Cage talk to me.”
“Yeah,” he sighs, shaking his head. “That was stupid. I assumed he was trying to run game on you. I already apologized to him. And now, I’m apologizing to you. I shouldn’t have acted that way and I’m sorry.”
“Even if he was trying to hit on me, it shouldn’t be an issue.” I’m a big girl and can take care of myself.
“How come you aren’t dating anyone, Wyn?”
“Who said I’m not?” I guess my mom didn’t tell him about Milton. That’s surprising.
“Who the fuck is he?” He flips my body around so I’m forced to face him. It’s annoying that he can toss me around like a rag-doll.
“Geez, Vale, chill. It’s just a friends-with-benefits kind of thing.” Although, I don’t even know if I would call Milton a friend. He’s not exactly someone who I’d call to bail me out of a tough situation, and I can’t share things with him. The one time I mentioned stuff from my past, he told me I should just get over it because it was ages ago.
“I don’t want you seeing him anymore.”
Wow. Okay. Talk about overbearing.
“And there you go again thinking you can tell me what to do.”
He clenches his jaw and the pulse on the side looks like it’s about to burst. I don’t understand why it’s that big of a deal whether I’m dating someone or not. I’m twenty years old. It’s not like I’m a virgin.
“You don’t need to be caught up with anyone right now. All you need to do is focus on school and what you want to do when you graduate.”
