“Did she tell you when it started?” I swallow hard, worrying over his answer.
“It’d been going on for a month. I can’t even repeat the details of how it started. Makes me want to burn the fucking world down. And it wasn’t like she wanted it to stop. There was no remorse. That night I lost the love of my life, my father, and my home. I was fucking lost for so fucking long.”
“That is some seriously fucked-up shit, Cage. I don’t know how you got through all that.”
“Believe me. That shit ate away at me until I was one arrest away from being locked behind bars. I plotted my vengeance a hundred different ways and found myself at the bottom of a whiskey bottle one too many times. But then I met King. And he set me straight.”
All I can say is wow. That’s just beyond fucked up.
“So, how did you confront your demons then?” He’d told me the other night that he’d faced his past.
“I became one of the most powerful men in this town: a brother of the Savage Knights MC. Wealthy, strong, and un-fucking-breakable.”
He turns onto the road leading into town and then pulls into a parking space outside of the diner.
“You hungry?”
I’m actually starved. “Famished.”
“Good. Let’s go eat. Then you can tell me all about your childhood trauma.” He smirks.
I still want to hear more about him and how he got his dad back for what he did. But as the day goes on, we never get back to his past. We settle right on mine, and I recount the nightmares I lived through. Only, this time, I don’t get pulled back into the pain. I’m not sure if it’s him, or what’s going on with Vale, or being surrounded by all these strong men, but I no longer feel like that scared little girl. I’m starting to feel strong. Stronger than I’ve ever felt before. I’m truly starting to feel happy.

Iignore the guys as I trek straight down to my room. That shit with Rogue took longer than I expected, and I’m sure I’ve just earned myself bonus points on Wyn’s shit list. She doesn’t even look up when I enter the room. Too engrossed in whatever she’s reading on her phone. I sit down on the bed and drag her stubborn ass right onto my lap. Finally, I get her looking at me. But she’s blazing fire through those little eyes.
“What the hell, Vale? Put me down.”
“No, Wyn. I’m not gonna let your stubborn little ass ignore me.” She’s gonna let me apologize and then she’s going to let me take her out and make it up to her.
“I know you’re mad, babe, and you have every right to be. But I really needed to be there for Rogue.” His dad is a piece of shit, and I didn’t want him going into battle without the stronghold of support at his back. “Look, baby. I’m sorry. It came at a bad time. All I wanted to do today was take you out and have a day with you. So, what do you say? Will you let me take you to dinner?”
“I’m not hungry. Cage took me for a drive, and we stopped in town for food. I’m still stuffed.”
My entire body turns stiff. The jealousy fusing my bones and muscles together.
“You went out with Cage?”
“I did.” She nods and her lips tip up in a genuine smile. “We had a really good time. He’s a great guy.”
Is that fucking so? Well, that great fucking guy just stepped over bounds. He’s gonna have to answer for that shit.
I place her back onto my bed and stand, storming out the door and hearing it slam behind me. Cage is still out in the garage, tinkering on his grandad’s truck.
“What the fuck, man?” I grit my teeth, my knuckles cracking as I clench my fists. “Told you the other day to stay the fuck away from her.”
He jerks up from under the hood at the sound of my shout, looking at me like I’ve lost my mind. Feels like I have. I’ve never been this fucking jealous. She’s mine, not his. And I want him to stop treading on my territory.
“She was bored, man. The girl’s been locked up here all week since you stole her fucking keys, and you bailed on her. So I took her out.”
No. He figured he could swoop in while I was gone and take her from me. Thank fuck he took her in his truck and not on the back of his bike; otherwise, he’d be a dead man.
“She’s mine, Cage. You want to take her out, you have to clear it with me first. And the answer is fucking no. You keep your hands off my woman.”
He turns, crossing his arms, and those menacing eyes stare me down.
