Adam took a step back, dipping his head for a moment before looking back up at me.
“We’ve let you down. I know we have. It shouldn’t have gotten this far. We should have shut this shit down the moment you got that first letter. And all I can say is I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry, but it isn’t happening again. From this moment, we are in lockdown.” He glanced around the room, and everyone nodded back at him in agreement. Everyone but me. “No one leaves this building unless one of us knows about it. No one enters without our say so. The club is closed until we find this guy, and if he so much as sneezes within a five-mile radius of here, we will know about it.”
The room fell silent, and all I could hear was the whistle of the wind through the windows. Every one of us was lost in our thoughts, and the anger and hatred I’d harboured only minutes ago turned to a gnawing confusion, an ache that wouldn’t let up.
“We’d never do anything to hurt you,” Will said, breaking the silence. “We fucking love you, man. You keep us grounded. You’re like the heart of this unit. The brains, even. No offence, Adam.”
“None taken,” he replied, keeping his eyes on me.
“That goes for all of us,” Colton added, looking contrite. “I’d rather hurt myself that do something to any of you. This is my family. My chosen family. Fuck the blood line, those fuckers mean nothing to me, but you...” He stuttered as if he was caught up in his emotions. I still had my guard up though.
“I agree.” Tyler was next to step up. “We’re here for you, mate. Whatever it takes to catch this fucker, we’ll do it.”
“Good,” Adam announced. “So, we’re all in agreement. Nobody makes a move unless we’re all onboard. This asylum is closed to anyone who isn’t part of this family.” The knot in my throat tightened. I didn’t know how this was going to play out. All I could do was wait.
“Tyler, Will, can you check the CCTV is fully functional and operating where we need it, and maybe get some sensors set up around the perimeter?” They both nodded as Adam made his plan. “Colton, you can come with me to pay this Eddie Hall a visit. It might be a dead end, but we have to check all avenues. No stone unturned, am I clear?” He switched his focus onto me. “And, Devon, stay here. Calm the fuck down and get your head straight. Is Leah May still here?”
“She’s in my room.”
“And does she know anything about this?”
“No.”
“Then we keep it that way until Devon tells us otherwise. Devon, can you get her to stay here for a while? Olivia has spare clothes and stuff she could borrow. It’d be easier to have her under our roof. We can protect her better if she’s here.”
Wherever she was is where I’d be. No one would protect her as well as I could.
“She’ll stay,” I stated, but I wasn’t happy. Not really. I felt like I didn’t know which way was up.
“That’s settled then. Let’s get to work.” Adam marched off, ready to fulfil his part of the bargain.
Me?
I was so wound up and there was only one way I wanted to deal with that.
By losing myself in my little raven.
ChapterThirty-Two
LEAH MAY
Iwas sitting on the bed, towel drying my hair and humming to myself when the door swung open. Devon wasn’t happy. He could try to hide it with his devilishly seductive smile, but I knew him, and I also knew the minute he’d walked in here that he wasn’t right. There was an edge to him, like a darkness had fallen over him. In his eyes, I could see that dark passenger I’d recognised all those years ago. Sometimes, it was hidden deep within him, and other times it shimmered beneath the surface, but right now, it was clawing, spitting, fighting to get out.
I shifted slightly to face him, and I was about to ask him what was wrong, when he slammed the door shut, locked it and said, “No words. I need you naked and face down on the bed. Now.”
I didn’t argue, I didn’t want to because the way he spoke, demanding what he wanted sent a ripple of excitement through me. If Devon needed me, he could have me, any way he chose.
I smiled shyly and stood up, sliding my fingers underneath the straps on my dress and letting them fall to the side. Then, I shimmied out of my wet dress, watching as it dropped to the floor, pooling around my feet. I was still wearing my white lacey underwear, but from the heavy breaths and pants I could hear coming from him, he wanted those off too, and now.
I unhooked my bra and took it off, keeping my eyes on his as I did. He looked feral, hungry, and for a moment, he let his attention waver from my eyes to my breasts, his stare becoming hooded and wanton as he drank me in, but he didn’t move.
“Everything, Leah,” he urged, his need growing like a rampant thunderstorm––dark, desperate, and greedy to devour whatever was in his path. “Take it all off and crawl onto the bed.”
I slipped my knickers down and left them with the rest of my clothes. Then I stood for a moment, naked and vulnerable in front of him. I was surprised that being exposed to him like this didn’t make me feel shy or embarrassed. Instead, it made me feel powerful, desirable, and wanted.
I couldn’t keep the smirk off my face as I got onto the bed, crawling on all fours and peering over my shoulder to where he’d positioned himself right at its foot. The perfect view to see my ass. I felt brazen and opened my legs slightly, knowing it’d please him. His expression darkened even more, and he hissed.
“So fucking beautiful. I can’t believe you’re all mine.”
