I rolled my eyes as a frown made its way to my face. I was getting angry. Riding wasn’t helping today, and I knew it was because we were talking about it. I turned my horse around and headed back to the barn. I didn’t have time for this bullshit.
“Ashanni, wait.”
If he wanted to talk to me, he was going to have to follow me to this barn, because I wasn’t staying on this horse a moment longer. When I slid off the side of him, I saw Asad approaching. I practically yanked the damn saddle off him then took a deep breath and rubbed him in a soothing manner. That was hard as hell, because I couldn’t even soothe myself right now. I wasn’t the type of woman that just sat around waiting for someone else to handle shit, especially when it kept happening.
He slid off his horse and tied the reins to the pole. “Ashanni, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m gon’ talk to her when she comes to get Jay.”
I didn’t respond to him. That ho needed physical contact. Talking didn’t work. Apparently, me knocking her the fuck out didn’t work either. Her next step was hospitalization. After that, hopefully, God would have mercy on her soul and mine for taking her ass out of here.
When I set the saddle pad on the shelf, Asad wrapped his arms around me. I closed my eyes, because that shit felt good. I’d agreed to be with him because I felt like dealing with her ass was worth it, but if he wouldn’t allow me to deal with her in my way, this was a waste of time. I would be miserable if he couldn’t make her stop, then I would end up tryna to whuphisass.
I no longer felt like discussing this situation. We would see what happened after he talked to her. I pulled away from him, and he leaned against the wall, watching me tend to the horses. I tried my hand at rodeoing when I was younger, but that shit wasn’t for me. I was pretty good at it, but I didn’t really like it. I loved horses, though, and owned two of them. They were my babies.
“Tell me what you’re thinking, Ashanni?”
I turned to him and answered as honestly as possible without hurting his lil feelings. “I hope being with you ain’t a waste of my time.”
He lowered his head but maintained eye contact. “I’m gon’ make sure it ain’t, baby. Whatever I gotta do to get this shit under control, I’m gon’ do.”
I nodded. Once I got Callie settled, I closed the gate and stared at him. He came to me and rested his hands at my waist, then pulled me to him. Lowering his head, he kissed me like he was trying to convince me that everything was going to be cool. I could only hope he was right. When I pulled away, I said, “Okay. Don’t make me feel like I made the wrong decision, because I will disappear on yo’ ass faster than you can blink.”
“I got it, baby,” he said and kissed my lips again.
He was wearing down my defenses. My heart was softening, and all I wanted to do was tussle with him in this hay. I stared at him and licked my lips. His gaze followed my tongue, then he gently grabbed me by the neck and tongued me down. After separating our kiss, his fingertips slid down my neck and between my breasts over the tatt I had there. My body shivered from his touch. His other hand cupped my ass cheek, heating me up even more.
Taking a step back, I took a deep breath. “Come on, before somebody find us in here, fucking up this hay.”
He chuckled, then smacked my ass. I led him back to the house, seeing my dad on the deck smoking. When I saw Uncle Storm walk out onto the deck, I rolled my eyes. That nigga was here as much as he was at his house. No wonder Daddy was smoking. He didn’t typically smoke on Sundays, unless some shit was going on. Uncle Storm looked heated too. When he saw me, he said, “Aye, Ashanni! Come here for a minute.”
“Aww shit,” I said under my breath.
Asad chuckled. “That bad, huh?”
“Hell yeah.”
When we reached them, Uncle Storm went right in.
“You know anything about Maui talking to Mythic?”
Fuck!“No, Unc. I knew she had an interest in him. When did they start talking?”
“I don’t fucking know, but hell naw. I love Legend and Harper like siblings, but I’ll fuck that nigga up. Why would my baby wanna be involved with a nigga like that? He don’t want shit but trouble, and he gon’ find it fucking around with my baby girl.”
I glanced at Asad as he stared on. “I’ll talk to her, Unc. Maybe she can cause him to want to change though.”
He frowned at me as my dad chuckled and blew out smoke. “See, you tryna get fucked up, huh? Hell fucking no. Him and PJ’s ass are big red waving flags. I see that nigga on my property, I’m shooting first and asking questions later. I already talked toLegend about that nigga. He gon’ get more than smoke. He gon’ get a fucking explosion.”
He waved me off, dismissing me. Yeah, he was pissed. He normally pulled me in for a hug. To try to soften him up, I asked, “Where is she, Uncle Mayor?”
He side-eyed me, then said, “I’m assuming with that nigga. She’s not answering my calls. She texted and said she would call me back. I’m not liking this shit, Shani. If it were the twins, I would still be pissed, but I know they can handle their own. But my baby girl, she too sweet and naïve.”
I slid my arm around his waist. “She is extremely sweet, but she’s not naïve. I promise, I will talk to her, because I don’t like that nigga either.”
He finally leaned over and kissed my head, then shook Asad’s hand. He snatched the blunt from Daddy’s hand and took a long ass pull. I bit my bottom lip, trying not to laugh. Daddy had a deep frown on his face. Besides his family and his money, he didn’t play about his smoke. I grabbed Asad’s hand and led him inside. The minute I closed the door, he turned to me. “I don’t know about her talking to Mythic either. That nigga crazy as fuck.”
“I know. I didn’t tell him, but I’ve tried talking her out of wanting that nigga. Maui has never gone for the bad boy typa nigga, so I don’t know why she’s so hung up on wanting him.”
Asad slowly shook his head and grabbed my hand, leading me to the couch. When I sat next to him, he put his arm around me and put his hand on my cheek. “Back to us though. We good?”
