“We’re so fucked,” he murmured.

“Totally,” Maddison agreed, smiling. “But at least we’re in it together now.”

Chapter 21

Contact Sport

Logan Creams didn’t do feelings. He did things efficiently. Violence. Power moves in dark rooms. But tonight? He poured whiskey. The second shot burned down his throat as he glared at his phone like it had personally betrayed him. Lucas was ignoring him. Again. And Logan knew what that meant.

The red-haired assistant.

Helmet Daddy.

Absolutefuckingdisaster.

He was two seconds from kicking down Lucas’s office door when

“Well, if it isn’t my favourite Cream.”

The voice behind him was sugar dipped in venom. Logan turned, jaw already tight.

Penny.

Twenty-eight. Gossip queen. Gossip parasite. Beautiful pain in his ass. Neon heels. Vintage leather jacket. Black hair in a messy bun, lipstick sharp enough to cut. She smelled like expensive perfume and camera flashes, and she always came with claws. They’d had raw, desperate sex last year at a party. Neither mentioned it again.

“Didn’t expect you here,” he muttered.

“Bullshit,” she smiled. “You always run when I’m close.”

His mouth curved in a humourless smirk. “I don’t run. I will remove liabilities.”

“And yet…” She perched on the stool beside him, ordered something fruity and ridiculous, eyes locked on him. “Still very much unremoved.”

He kept his posture steel. “What do you want, Penny?”

Her grin widened, feline. “Just checking in. The rumour is your brother stirring things up.”

His jaw ticked. “Back off.”

She leaned closer, breath warm. “You know he’s trending, right? #WhoIsHelmetDaddy?”

The glass cracked in his hand. “Don’t.”

Her lashes fluttered like knives. “Relax. I won’t say anything. But others might.”

Logan’s silence was dangerous, thick as smoke.

She sipped her drink, unfazed. “Tell me something, Logan.”

“No.”

“One secret. A family scrap. Come on.”

His eyes flicked to the exits, calculating. “You’ve been circling us like a shark for years. But you’re not here for headlines anymore. You’re here for me.”

Penny tilted her head, lips curved. “And if I am?”

“Then stop pretending you don’t want to get bitten.”
