“Monsters aren’t going to jump out at you,” Johnnie said dryly.
“Put on a fucking light.”
“Not until we get to my office. I don’t know who’s monitoring the cameras today.”
Pounder huffed but didn’t speak again until they reached Johnnie’s office and he flipped on a light.
“What does Bash want now?” Johnnie demanded. He wasn’t interested in pleasantries. He didn’t intend to linger. “There’s a crisis—”
“Bash is furious, Johnnie. He didn’t want anything to happen to CJ.”
“Excuse me?” Johnnie asked in a strangled voice.
“We have Diana.” Pounder dug in his pocket and came up with a piece of paper. “You can find Gail there.”
Closing his eyes, Johnnie leaned against the wall, sick to his fucking stomach and lightheaded with fear. “Who’s the mole? Dementor or Exorcist?”
“Both.”
“Fuck.”
Dementor and his friends had joined over the course of five years with the most recent addition being Nitro. Bash had been watching them long before he entered their lives. Right around the time the Gnomes made their appearance. Which made sense if they were actually Scorpions as Megan believed.
“Bash thought it was funny when you asked Dementor if he was a Harry Potter fan or if he liked cockroach wasps,” Pounder said, smiling.
Johnnie never discovered the answer. Annoyed, he snatched the paper and didn’t bother to look at the address. He stuffed it in the pocket of his jeans.
“What about Joplin?”
“We don’t know her. Only Gail and Diana. For what it’s worth, Dementor, Exorcist, and the guys they brought in, truly liked being part of the Dwellers. Fuck, I liked what I saw, too.”
Johnnie hated Pounder’s smirk. “Get Megan off your fucking brain.”
“Wasn’t only her,” he said, not denying he’d been thinking about her. “Bash wants justice for his nephew. Deliver Gail to Outlaw and that might appease him.”
“This is a fucking setup.”
“I swear it isn’t. Bash might think Meggie stands in the way of his rightful ownership, but he has nothing against CJ.”
Johnnie couldn’t imagine the fallout if Christopher discovered Johnnie’s involvement with Dementor and Exorcist.
“They took that photo of Megan on Bash’s orders, didn’t they?”
“Yeah.”
“FUCK!”
“Bash has a copy, but he made sure all others were destroyed. Bash—”
Something in Pounder’s tone reminded Johnnie of the blatant lie he’d told. “Shut the fuck up. You aren’t the smartest cookie in the jar. I should fucking kill you now. That bullshit about being Bash’s son when he himself told me his oldest was twenty-five.”
“You honestly fucking think Bash tells you the fucking truth aboutmostthings?”
“Fuck you!”
“Cleaner is here, Johnnie. He flew in to take care of Diana and Gail—”
“But not Dementor and Exorcist?”
