“Yep, and you’re next!” I levitated over to her. Abby’s scary ass was still crying in the corner. “I will never come second to you or anyone else ever again. You should have bowed out gracefully.” I landed before her, kneeling and lifting her chin to bring her wet eyes to mine. “Now, not only did I take your man, but now I will take your life.”
Grabbing her by the neck, I used all of my strength to squeeze the life from her. On a normal day, Janelle could have very well beaten my ass. Since they wanted to keep referring to me as a witch bitch, I was going to show them exactly what this witch could fucking do.
“Donovan will never be yours.” She clawed at my hand, tears still streaming down her face. “His heart will always belong to me.”
“While his soul is mine.” I grinned, watching the life leave her eyes. “He’s mine, and I will have my happily ever after. Too bad you won't be around?—”
Feeling a burning sensation in my scalp, I was yanked backward and flew toward the opposite side of the room. Wheezing from what I knew was another broken rib that had now punctured my lung, I groaned from the pain that coursed through my entire body. Lifting from the floor as best as I could, my eyes burned from tears that had nothing to do with the physical pain I was also enduring.
“Are you okay, Janelle?” Donovan’s raspy voice was clearer than it had been in weeks. “Let me help you up.”
Picking her up in his arms, I watched as he handled her with nothing but care. How could this be? He is supposed to love and only want me. How dare he show affection toward that bitch!
“D-Donovan?” she spoke above a whisper. She eyed him over as he lay her on the sofa as if she would break at any moment. “How could you do this to me?” She gasped, snatching herself from his embrace once reality hit her. “Your eyes!”
Stepping back from her, he placed his hands in his joggers, dropping his head momentarily before turning them toward me. They were no longer blackened like they were moments earlier; they glowed a bright orange with the shadows still dancing in the background. Although they were menacing, they held conflict, and I could still see the love he had for my former best friend.
“J-Janelle, I-I’m sorry.” He rubbed the back of his neck, looking away from her. “I never meant to hurt you, but I love Sabrena. I can’t explain it, but my soul is bound to her. I want to be with her for eternity, even though I don’t know why. You need to move on and be happy with someone else—someone that isn’t me.”
I couldn’t help but beam with pride as he walked over to me, helping me from the floor. His eyes flashed a bright red, causingmy smile to falter. The love that shone for her wasn’t there for me.
“What did you do to him, bitch?” she cried, weakly standing from the couch. Abby wept by her side as she wrapped her arms around her. “Our lives were perfect, Donovan! We planned a life together.” She walked over toward her purse and snatched it open before throwing something at his face. “I’ve been calling you. I wanted to show you this. The one thing we wanted the most, you gave to me.”
Frowning at her in confusion, he looked down at his feet, where the object landed. I couldn’t help the anguish I felt once I saw what it was she’d thrown. As he picked it up and I got a better look, my blood boiled at the sight of him reading the positive pregnancy test.
“Y-You’re pregnant?” he asked, giving her his attention. “Janelle, you’re having my baby?”
“I guess we will never know.” She snatched her purse, gripping Abby’s arm. “You’ve made your choice, Donovan, and now it’s time for me to make mine.” Turning to face me, her eyes were no longer tearful but filled with hate. “You’re a deceitful and grimy bitch. Ashley is in intensive care with a ruptured esophagus because of you. She will never be able to argue another case. Trevor’s life had been cut short, and when I leave here, I will be calling the cops. I hope you and Donovan have the life you deserve. You’ve made my life a living hell, you jealous, filthy, worthless-ass witch. I hope you die. I hope every day you live in your own personal hell.”
“Fuck you!” I shouted as she reached the door, causing her to glance over her shoulder at me. My fists balled in anger, and all I wanted to do was beat her pretty face in. “You need to face the fact that I won!” I smirked as I stepped her way. “The night of Ash’s party, I fucked your man in her bathroom, and it was the best dick I ever had!”
Her eyes turned into slits as she dragged her furious gaze toward Donovan. He was still staring at the test. I was beaten, on the verge of dying, and unwilling to quit; she would know everything before she left my cabin. I would not be anchored with the burden of my wrongdoings. In some twisted way, I felt as if this was all her fault. Had she kept a better grasp on Donovan, the universe would have never revealed him to be mine.
“Did I work my magic on him for it to happen? Yes, but it’s nothing compared to the way he’s been working this pussy. So yes, I may have had a little help in securing him, but so what? He’s mine now, and this is where he belongs!” I threw my head back and giggled uncontrollably at how things played out. “Things aren’t perfect, but he’s mine!”
The angrier I became, the more the lights in the room began to flicker. The girls tried to leave the house, but the broken door slammed shut behind them, locking them in. Not knowing if my power was causing the environmental shift or not, I kept going. Janelle would not walk away from me until she admitted that I had won.
“I will be the one getting his dick, love, and babies! I will be the one getting the life you think rightfully belongs to you! Deal with it bitch! I win! I win! I fuckin’ win!”
Suddenly, the air picked up around us, causing objects to fly all through the room. Cabinets began to forcefully open and slam shut as the room shook with darkness and electrical charge. I could feel the anger vibrating through me because of the hold Janelle still had on my man, but it wasn’t me who was causing the elements of my home to change.
It was Donovan. It was the Binding Shadow spirit.
“You ruined my life!” His tone was the deadliest and deepest it had ever been. “I was happy, and you came in and stole that from me.” He gripped my neck, lifting me from the ground withone hand while the other still held the pregnancy test. “You want a life of eternal bliss, right? You want to be bound to my soul for eternity? Why wait and start our forever? Let’s start now!”
His eyes were black again as his grip became unbearable. I felt myself slip out of consciousness, but Donovan wasn’t letting me go that easily. Slapping me roughly until my eyes slowly peeled open again, he clenched his jaw, mimicking the hold he had on my neck. I wanted to pray, but it seemed pointless. I tried to chant, but my power was obsolete against him. I wanted to go back to a few weeks ago and smash the mirror where his face had appeared, but my pride would never let me admit fault.
Feeling us both levitate from the floor, I watched as the lights continued to flicker and a dark mass formed around us. The girls screamed and watched in fear as Donovan’s black eyeballs rolled into his head. His body began to shake uncontrollably as his neck snapped back so hard that I thought it was broken. With his head distorted and mouth opened wide, a thick dark entity descended from him, as he screamed out in pain, making it hard for him to breathe. As the entity completely left his body, we both dropped to the ground with a thud. Watching the Binding Shadow linger, I feared my ultimate karma would be the entity transitioning into my body next. Instead, it swam the room before dissipating through a wall.
“Donovan!” Janelle cried, running to his aid. In the midst of danger, after everything that had taken place, she still loved him. Regardless of everything, she still wanted to make sure he was all right. Shaking his lifeless body, she shook him as she sobbed. “Baby, please!”
“Don’t cry for him, dearie…”
I stilled, a chill running down my spine at the sound of the eerie voice.
“True love never dies. It may bend from the tests it endures, but it will never expire.”
A misty white cloud formed, as everything in the house began to fly toward the mass and spin. Once the fog cleared, the last person I’d ever expect appeared: Gertrude. Old and ugly as ever, she was dressed in a long black dress with a laced veil over her face. Her eyes glimmered white as snow as she moved to hover over a weeping Janelle and a dying Donovan. Twisting the top off a small vial, she doused a few drops over his body before speaking.
