You were warned, but didn’t take heed

Now the man you wanted is yours indeed

No matter what happens, regardless of what you do

The fate is yours for the love isn’t true

I shivered as I thought about what it could mean. Donovan was mine now, and that’s what I wanted. The worst thing to happen as a result was a lost friendship. I was okay with that as long as I could keep my man. Janelle could easily find another man and a new best friend.

Reaching out to stroke his cheek, his eyelids popped open, and what I saw caused me to snatch my hand back. His pretty light eyes, the ones that stole my heart, appeared to be brighter. What scared me the most was the dark shadows dancing inside his pupils.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” He grinned, gripping my arm as I tried to move from his lap. “You’re not having second thoughts, are you?”

Snapping my eyes shut, I took a few deep breaths before responding to him. I don’t know what is happening, but it wouldn’t deter me from what I wanted. Facing him again, I was met with the orbs I fell in love with. Rubbing my own, I stared at him in confusion. Was I seeing things that weren’t there? Was this an effect of the spell? As I gawked at this man, I saw all of the love he had for me. I knew then, I’d made the right choice.

“Only second thoughts I’m having are about fucking you again.” I smirked, pecking his lips. “That’ll have to wait until I get off work, though.”

I tried moving from his lap once again, but he still had a grip on my arm, one that I didn’t care too much for. I was about to address it, but he spoke before I could.

“Why wait? Fuck that job, baby. Your man will take care of you.” His glare was sincere, and I felt tears flood my eyes. “What do you say?”

“I’d love that…” I dropped my lips to his and kissed him once more. “Let’s go home.”

As I lay my head on his shoulder, he adjusted me so he could drive with me in his lap. Fuck that job. Fuck my doubts. Fuck everything. I was finally happy and getting the life I deserved with the man I’d willed to me.

I would miss Janelle. She’d been good to me all these years, but I was done being alone. It wasn’t my fault that the universe decided for Donovan to be with me instead of her. I’d deal with the backlash when it came. For now, I was excited to be loved the way I deserved.

“Shit, baby. Please, don’t stop.”

Gripping onto Donovan’s shoulders, my nails dug into his skin as he stroked me deeply. Since showing up at my job two days ago, we’ve been locked inside his condo. Making love to him under the city lights of Milly Grove has been a dream come true. It’s still hard to believe that this is my life right now.

“Tell me you love me and only me.” He slammed into me repeatedly, producing thunderous sounds. “Tell me you’ll never leave me…”

“Never, baby,” I cried as I wrapped my legs around his waist. I could feel my third orgasm of the night creeping up on me. “I love you and only you, Donovan.”

His strokes became erratic as he stared deep into my eyes. Under the moonbeam, they shone so bright, but there was a darkness lurking within them too. For the past few days, I’ve been noticing the shadows more and more, and it was making me worry.

Slamming into me harder, I winced at the pain, but I endured. Donovan was very dominant, and it was something I was going to have to get used to when it came to being intimate. I didn’t care how intense the sex was, I wanted it however I could get it.

Feeling him let loose inside of me triggered my own release. I held on to him tightly as I let the feeling of euphoria sweep over me. The feeling was short-lived due to the ringing of my cell phone.

“Who the fuck is calling you this late?” He frowned as he glanced over to the blaring device. “It better not be no nigga.”

“Donnie, please.” I giggled lowly, trying to wiggle from underneath him. His body was solid, and he wouldn’t move for shit. “Baby… I promise, it’s not a man. It’s probably one of the girls. We’re supposed to be going out for drinks tonight.”

Eyeing me, he scanned my face for any deceit. Not finding any, he scoffed before getting out of bed. I watched his muscular back as he trekked across the room to the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. Reaching over to grab my phone from the nightstand, my heart dropped to my ass when I saw Janelle’s name flash across the screen. Looking toward the bathroom door, I swiped the screen to answer.

“Hey, friend.” I tried my hardest to sound normal as I eased out of bed. “What’s up?”

“Bitch, don’t ‘what’s up’ me!” she yelled over the sound of loud music. “We’re at Club Honey waiting on you? Are you coming?”

Hearing the sound of the bathroom door open, I locked eyes with an angry Donovan. I’m not sure what caused the sudden change in his mood, but I knew I didn’t want to add to it. At the same time, I wasn’t ready for our friends to know about us yet.

“Yes, give me time to freshen up, and I’ll be there. Save me a seat!”

Disconnecting the call, I walked over to my duffel bag and found a simple sweater dress for the evening. The weather in Milly Grove was weird, and this week, it felt more like fall than late summer. After I gathered everything I needed for a shower, I walked toward the bathroom to get ready, only to be stopped by Donovan.

“Where are you going?” He gripped my arm and mugged me. “I thought we were chilling.”
