“Inpublic?”

“I think you’ll be a lot less anxious about intimacy in the future once you cross this one off your bucket list.”

“First off, I don’t have a bucket list, and second, if I did,sex in publicwould not be on it!”

I switched on the fountain. After some gurgling sounds, it sprang to life with blue lights shining from inside it as water splashed over its many tiers into the coined-filled pool below. A cool chlorine-scented mist filled the surrounding air.

If we were being honest, this entire thing had been a gambit, and I figured we’d end up at my new apartment regardless. But maybe she’d be a lot less nervous about that if she got to dodge this bullet.

Jade was wringing the bottom of her dress with her hands as she gazed at the fountain, and a steely determination came over her. “You know what? Okay.”

“Wait. Really?”

“This new me is adventurous.”

“She is?”

“Yes. And this new me takes risks. This new me isn’t boring. This new me doesn’t take everything so seriously!” She grabbed me by the tie and pulled it down, making me bend to her eye level. “I’d be stupid to turn down the most exciting thing to ever happen to me.” With that, she went in for a kiss.

My eyes closed as the softest lips I ever felt brushed against mine. Her hot tongue teased around my mouth, and I growled as I invaded hers instead.

I lifted her up, my hands gripping her ass as she wrapped her legs around me, then I took her to a soft patch of thick grass. I set her down on her back and pulled away to look at her. She averted her eyes shyly, blushing redder than ever. A hand went up to her collarbone, and I watched as the mist from the fountain settled on her skin, making it sparkle in the moonlight.

Through her thin black little dress, the nipples of her full breasts were visible under the fabric, and I couldn’t help but brush a thumb over one of them. She shuddered in pleasure, and just from that little touch, she was like a tripwire about to go off.

I pulled up the bottom of her dress and brushed a finger against her panties. She shivered again as I discovered they were already wet.

Fuck, this is going to be good.

I slipped a finger under the rim of the silky fabric and watched her face, looking for one last confirmation that she wanted this.

“Please,” was all she had to whisper.

Chapter 8

Jade

I couldn’t believewe were really doing this. I couldn’t believe that Griffin was straddling my legs, his fingers slipping past my underwear, outside in a public park.

I’d never live this down if we were caught. The way gossip spread through this town like wildfire—everybody would know about it by the time they had their morning coffee.

And that risk turned me way the hell on.

Since when were you such a little pervert, Jade?

Uh, maybe since I met Griffin and his big dumb blue eyes and his cute, stupid little grin.

Why, ohwhydid this have to be a friends-with-benefits situation? Why’d I agree to that? I wanted this to be real. I wanted it to be more. And if that meant our relationship would have strictly remained clothes-on as we got to know each other, I wouldn’t have even minded.

But I knew how stupid that was. This wouldn’t be happening if there were strings attached. We knew each other for literally a day. And sure, he seemed to take genuine interest in me and forgive all my crazy eccentricities, but that just meant he was a nice, accepting guy.

Not boyfriend material.

Not when he was the sworn enemy of the town. And also maybe had some bad boy tendencies.

A motorcycle and tattoos? Really?

Everybody would think I was going through a phase, the type of phase I should have gotten out of my system back when I was a teen.
