Hallie hurried up the stairs. These words made her feel more guilty than she ever had for the deception.
Maybe her mama just wanted her to be happy, and that was why she kept bugging her about getting a boyfriend.Of course, she still didn’t see what a low-down snake Luke was.
Hallie started to pack up her stuff. It was sad to see all the outfits she had meant to wear that weekend folded back up in the suitcase.
She knew she would feel better if she left right away and allowed some space between her and her family. There had been way too much information revealed this night.
She heard a knock on the door.Whoever it was, she didn’t want to talk to them.
Chapter 81: Who’s Sorry Now
“I’m busy,” Hallie calledout.
“Hey, it’s me,” Terry’s voice sounding strangely sedate came from the other side of the door.
“What do you want?Go away!”
Of all the people gathered there, her sister was the person she least wanted to see.
“Can I just come in, please?”Terry sounded so unlike herself that it piqued Hallie’s curiosity.
Terry even looked meek when Hallie wrenched open the door.
“What?”
“Are you packing?”Terry suddenly asked as Hallie returned to her task.“You know you don’t have to go.”
“I know I don’t have to.I want to.”
“You’re overreacting.See, even mama was just as bad as you when she was our age, apparently.”
“Why are you here, Terry?”Hallie said as she hurled toiletries into her bag.
“I just wanted to say...I’m sorry.”
This was unbelievable. She even looked sorry, but what good did it do anyone now?
