Eyes narrowed, I kept my voice even despite the immediate surge of aggression that pumped through my veins. “You can be, if you don’t already have a…” I almost saidmatebut managed to change it to, “man back home.”

She snorted and rolled her eyes. “I don’t have a man waiting for me.” Her amusement faded, and she dropped her gaze back down to my chest. I could almost feel her eyes tracing the thick scars across my skin. Better if it was her tongue. “I don’t have much right now. Probably not even a job when I get back. If I get back.”

I wanted to tell her that she didn’t need a job, not if she stayed with me. But this must be important to her, or it wouldn’t worry her so. “Why’s that?”

“This was my big break. I finally made it onto one of Dr. Snyder’s research trips, and I’m on the verge of finishing my thesis. I figured I’d be a shoe-in for the next assistant professor position. At the least, I’d be able to help write up our findings and get my name out there in the right circles. But he’s going to take all the credit. I’ll be lucky if my name is printed anywhere on the article that he’ll make me write. Now, I don’t even have that. I lost my camera. The map. I don’t have any idea where I am. I don’t even have proof that I found the ruins at all to force him to keep my name on the paper.”

The tremor in her voice made me step closer to her, though her head jerked up. Her eyes sharpened with alert focus, and she sidled backward.

“I’ll find your camera. Where’d you leave it?”

“I don’t know. It was in my backpack.”

It’d be easy for me to sniff out her trail until I found the backpack. But she didn’t know what I am. Not yet. She had suspicions, sure. Especially after smelling my bare skin pressed against her face. “I’ll find it.”

She gave me a small nod, but I read doubt in her eyes. She wasn’t sure about me. About any of this.

“Are you hungry? I can probably find you a chocolate bar. Nuts? No nuts? Caramel?”

She snorted out a laugh that made my cock twitch toward her like a hungry beast on its own. “Nuts, always, but water’s good for now.”

“I have beer. Or better yet, coffee. I can make a pot. Best damned shit you’ve ever had, grown and roasted just miles away. I’ll be packing out as much of it as I can carry when…” I hesitated, not sure how much to say. I didn’t want to give her information overload.

Her lips quirked, her eyes sparkled, and fuck, I wanted to crush that delectable mouth beneath mine and sink balls-deep into her warmth. “What if I said I don’t drink coffee?”

I took a step closer, and this time, she didn’t retreat. Progress. “Then I’d say I could forgive a woman who wouldn’t drink beer, but I’d never trust anyone who wouldn’t drink coffee.”

“Nectar of the gods?” She murmured, her gaze dropping south again.

Just knowing she was looking—and admiring, if the quickening of her breathing was any indication—made my balls tighten with lust. “I’ve got another nectar in mind, but yeah, coffee’s a close second.”

“Kroktl?” Her voice trembled as she stumbled over my name.

I froze, forcing my body into compliance. I rasped out, “Yeah?”

“I don’t mean to be rude, but…” She gulped and dragged her gaze back up to mine. “You… Uh… You’re not exactly…”

I sighed. “Human.”

NATALIE

If my eyes got any bigger, I was afraid my brain would just roll out on the floor.

Holy shit.

I was right.

Not human.

Inhuman. What did that mean? Demonic? Alien? But he sounded so… normal.

He talked and joked like a guy I’d just met at a bar. Despite his obscenely huge muscles, inhumanly broad shoulders, not to mention the biggest, thickest dick I’d ever seen in my life, he otherwise seemed normal. Though my first thought had been that kind of size was physically impossible. No man could even think about walking around with such a big dick in his pants. Like how would it even fit?

Though my pussy sure wanted to give it a try.

Despite my raging libido, my rational mind was throwing out red flags everywhere. I had no idea what he was. Not human could mean a lot of things. Even the possibility that I’d run into something like him in the jungle would have seemed impossible before the giant lizard thing had chased me.
