Remedie rolled her eyes. “It happened one time, Nico. You been good since I got in your ass about it.” She reached a hand up for him. “Come sit.”
He sat down across from her with his legs bent and his arms resting on his knees.
“What’s wrong, cookie?” he asked as he grabbed her hand.
She beamed at him. “Nothing, baby. Everything is right.”
Nico peered into her eyes as if he was unsure that she was actually alright. She’d give him that. Her hormones were all over the place lately. One second, she was crying about there being no hot sauce in her to-go order, and the next, she was laughing at a Life Alert commercial.
He reached out and wiped her remaining tears. “You know I don’t like it when you cry.”
“They’re happy tears. Today, I’m happy.”
Nico tugged on her hand and pulled her in between his legs. “How can I keep those happy tears comin’?”
He kissed her neck, and she giggled. “I can think of a few ways.”
“Oh yeah?” He captured her lips with his and kissed her slowly. A moan fell from her lips. That seemed to prompt him to undress her because before she knew it, she was naked and spread eagle right there in the nursery. “I’m gon’ make this quick, aight, baby?”
She only had a second to wonder why it had to be quick before he entered her. The only thought she had after that was that she hoped she never got used to Nico being inside of her so it could feel brand new every time. The feeling had to be as close to euphoria that a person could get.
He took his time with her, stroking slowly and kissing her passionately. Remedie clung to him as if she couldn’t bear to live without being as close as possible to him.
“I love you so much, Nico,” she mumbled as tears gathered in her eyes once again. The love she had for him felt too big for her. She had to release it.
“I love you too, baby. Go ’head. I can feel you,” he urged.

He slipped his sweatpants back on and handed Remedie his shirt. While she slipped it over her head, he walked back over to the door and grabbed the bag he had put there earlier.
“Look what I got.” He pulled a mini pair of red boxing gloves from the bag with a smile.
Remedie’s face melted. “They’re so cute.”
“I know I ain’t gon’ be fightin’ no more, but I still want to teach my baby a thing or two in the ring. The healthy way, of course.”
Remedie cupped his cheeks. “I wouldn’t expect anything less. You just better make sure they don’t never get hurt, and I’ll let you live.”
“Ain’t no harm gon’ ever come to you or them. You got my word on that.”
Remedie smiled in response. “Let’s find somewhere to put these so they don’t get lost in this mess.”
She grabbed the gloves and turned around, trying to find the perfect spot. By the time she turned back around, Nico was down on one knee with a small box clasped in his hand.
Remedie gasped. Tears immediately filled her eyes for the millionth time that day. She let them fall as she looked between the gorgeous ring and Nico’s handsome face. When she noticed tears in his eyes, she cried harder. Love exuded from any space they were in together, so this next step felt extremely right to them both.
