Grant never…he’d never…he always offered but he’d never…Charlotte gulped. It was certain…Trixie had to go.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
“TRIXIE, HAVE YOU ever tried these TikTok shops?” Sylvia invited the young woman inside her massive closet. Everything was sorted by color and then by designer. There was one mannequin for everything, and different wigs if Sylvia felt froggy about it.
The jewelry ranged from the real stuff to costume jewelry that no one could tell the difference. She wore them all the same. Her shoes were nothing but red bottoms, Jimmy Choos, Manolo Blahniks, and Versace. Even her sneakers were designer.
But if there was one thing about Sylvia that very few knew about, it was how much she loved a good sale. She held up a cute little teddy bear bag. “I got this on sale for five dollars!”
Trixie loved her already. “That’s amazing!”
If Charlotte was Queen Bitch, Sylvia was The Oracle. She was sunny days, dancing in the rain, and having a great meal. She was clear skin, a perfect credit score, and ice-cold water in the middle of the night.
Sylvia was the light everyone spoke about when they said someone lit up a room. You simply left as a better person being around Sylvia for a few minutes. It was no wonder she was a likable billionaire; she gave away just as much as she acquired.
“I just love the TikTok shops! Sometimes, I can find a good deal; sometimes, I have to one-star them because they know better!” Sylvia shook her head. “Where do you shop at?”
“Well, I tend to do Fashion Nova and So Iconic,” Trixie admitted. She always stayed within her budget and didn’t mind looking good as well. “Grant did introduce me to Neiman Marcus before we got here, though.”
“Oh yes. My boy, Neiman, with his good friends, Nordstrom and Bergdorf.” Sylvia put the teddy bear bag away with the other purses. “You can never find a better trio than them.” She walked around the closet for a bit. “So, what’s the deal between you and my son? I’ve noticed you two were in the bedroom more than you were participating in any activities this weekend.”
Trixie blushed. On night two of the festivities, she and Grant stayed long enough to talk and mingle. Then, they escaped for a quickie in an upstairs bathroom. They came back down just in time for dinner. They missed breakfast again on the third and final day and barely made it down for lunch. “We’re having fun.”
“Fun, huh?” Sylvia looked at Trixie, who shook her head. “Listen, I was young once. And my sex drive was like a truck driver pulling an all-nighter. I know how it is when you’re in love.”
In love?Trixie liked Grant, sure. He was the best fuck she’s ever had, no doubt. But in love with him? She was not racing to say yes even when he did his not-quite proposal. Trixie knew why.
She knew how it felt to be head over heels in love, plan the perfect wedding, get excited about bridal magazines, try on gowns, only for all to go up in smoke with a simpleI didn’t mean to do it, Trix, you gotta believe me.
It wasn’t infidelity that made Trixie sour; it was money. Her ex-fiancée stole from her.Hewas the reason why she was an Uber driver if she wanted to keep it legit. All she knew was she had thirty thousand in her accounts and she was down to maybe twenty dollars because he couldn’t just stay away from the gambling apps.
While she clearly wouldn’t have that issue with Grant, the honesty about their relationship was still an issue. “Sylvia?”
“Hmm?”
“About me and Grant…” Trixie began. She knew she was about to ruin an amazing weekend and give Grant every reason to rescind his offer, but she couldn’t keep lying to someone good to her no matter what was going on in the family. “…Grant and I aren’t together.”
Sylvia went to the yellow section of her closet. “I think I might do yellow tonight,” she glanced over to the pink section, “on second thought, I think I’ll do pink.”
Trixie was puzzled. “Sylvia, did you not hear me?”
“Oh, I heard you loud and clear, honey,” she glanced back at her, “and I know when two people are in love despite how they got together.”
Trixie felt stupid. Of course, his mama would know! Mamas always knew. “When did you find out?”
“You’re not the first woman Grant has brought home where it was clear he paid for her services. Youarethe first woman he’s brought home where it was clear he was madly in love with her. I can’t even say the same for Charlotte.” Sylvia tsked. “I still think Grant was more upset at Nathan than he ever was at Charlotte.”
Trixie was taken aback. “He wasn’t in love with her?”
“I think he wanted to marry her because we wanted him to. I don’t think he ever did. I’m sure they would’ve been divorced by now if they did marry.” Sylvia strolled over to the black section but shook her head. L.A. still had hot weather, despite it being September. “Charlotte was more in love with what Grant offered her than with him. They were never a match in any regard.”
“So, why does she hate me?” Trixie asked.
“She hates anyone who has a better chance with Grant than she did. I’m sure if the boys had a sister, she would’ve hated her as well just because of proximity.” Sylvia stopped at the tealsection. “I think I’ll wear something teal tonight.” She turned to Trixie. “What are you going to wear?”
“I have no clue,” Trixie shook her head. “I haven’t even thought that far ahead.”
“Well,” Sylvia gesticulated to her closet. “You have plenty of options, my dear. Let’s get to choosing!”
