She had no room to talk; she gold-medaled with her antics. “I’m only keeping him company for a few days,” Trixie replied, “he doesn’t like me like that.”

“Girl, I don’t know what happened at In-N-Out,” Amberswan dismissed her, “but no man offers a woman he just met six figures just to keep him company if he didn’t like her in some way.”

Sometimes, he did wonder why he needed that big of a house. Then Grant remembered he bought to start a family. A family that never happened.

As Grant went into his walk-in closet which was the size of a master bedroom, he began to pack up items for the family excursion that weekend. He was going to need four suits. Then he would need casual wear. Then he’ll need sleepwear. He always slept naked, but he was certain Trixie wouldn’t appreciate his bare balls splayed out. He would wear boxers and a plain T-shirt.

After spending way too much time packing and wishing he had an assistant to do it, Grant was finally done. Enough clothing for the weekend, and a little extra just in case whatever happened. He always needed to be prepared. The family alwaysmade a big deal of the annual soiree. Dignitaries, celebrities, and other stuffy guests roamed the estate.

But the soiree was something different this year. Grant’s father told him in not-so-many words he needed to bringher. No, not her as in Trixie. Her,the imaginary fiancée Grant cooked up as a reason why he couldn’t see his family, despite only living a few hours away from them.

It was an excuse he’d cooked for the past six months and even gave her a nickname,Princess, to accommodate.

“No, I’m sorry I can’t make it! Princess has a thing she’s doing at her work and I have to attend!”

“No, unfortunately, Princess has a family gathering this weekend and I can’t attend.”

“I would love to, but Princess is sick and I have to take care of her. She sends her regards.”

And the excuses worked until they didn’t.

Grant’s father, Jack, demanded Grant bringPrincessto the next family gathering or there would be severe consequences. Grant didn’t have to ask what those consequences were – he would’ve been cut out of the family inheritance.

He was a multi-millionaire in his own right and his net worth was north of five hundred million. He also knew the big difference between five hundred million and a share of a multi-billion-dollar legacy.

He knew he could’ve gotten an actress to play the role and he was about to do just that before he met Trixie. It was during that fateful meeting and dinner that everything changed. He wanted someone he could relate to and actually like, not try to figure out on the spot and rehearse.

Now, it became a question of when to tell Trixie his intention. He was going to pay her when they arrived, and then wire the other amount at the conclusion. He would make up some excuseas to why they didn’t work out and no one would care enough to pry.

Still, Grant felt a little bad. Trixie was innocent enough and despite her enthusiasm, he would still have to fill her in with all of the details. They would have to get together and coordinate everything. He just hoped she had a solid memory.

Grant shook his head. He didn’t have to worry about his brother being full of it. Grant was currently in the lead for Biggest Blowhard of the McGinnis family. It was only a weekend and he could handle 48 hours. He just hoped Trixie could.

Grant’s cell phone went off and he raced over to see if it was Trixie texting him. He rolled his eyes when he saw who it was – Charlotte.

Nate told me you were bringing a girlfriend to this weekend’s gala? Is that true?

Grant wanted to reply withit’s truly none of your fucking businessbut he knew if he stirred the pot, Charlotte was going to keep adding spice to it.

Yes.

When were planning on telling me about her?

Was I supposed to?

Yes. I am family.

By marriage only.

Ouch. Is it something I said?

Is there something you want, Charlotte?

Just making small talk.

Okay.
