“Yeah,” I glance around and sigh.The farmhouse is beautifully decorated, and I already know I’ll use Eli D’Amato as my flower coordinator for when I get married.If I get married.I think I’ll get married?
Truth be told, I didn’t want to be a part of this wedding, but Jamie insisted I had to be, along with Hayley, since we’re her business partners.She wanted me to be a part of it because she considers me family, even though I’m not with Cameron anymore.
It was strange to be a part of the Page family yet not truly be a part of it.Mia is more of a member than I am, but that’s because she’s blood-related.I also know it’s because of the optics – her white side is about as conservative and hateful as they can be without actually toeing that line.
Every chance the Pages can use Mia for their gain, they take advantage of it.Mia has made many political photo-ops, “random” public appearances, and she’s not even one yet.Eric particularly loves to show off Mia when he speaks about the police force.Barf.
“How are you doing today?”Hayley sits with me at the bridal party table as other guests are ushered to their seats.“Everything okay with you and Cam?”
I let out a small breath.We shared a hotel suite, but I made sure Cameron stayed on his side while I was on mine.I would love to say it was for my protection, but it really was for Cameron’s.The man has seemingly become finer since we’ve broken up.
His body was lean and muscular, but not overly so.His outfits, already of designer and highest quality, became sharper.He has swag and confidence that make every woman feel like she’s the only one in the world.
And the fact that he walked around the suite wearing a tank top and grey sweatpants made me want to climb the tree that is Cameron Page and ride him all night.It didn’t help that he’s an amazing father to Mia and picks up where I left off, as if it were second nature.
Sigh.
Now, I’m sitting at his sister’s wedding reception feeling like a Home Alone as I watch so many single Beckys and Karens (with a sprinkle of Susans and Gertrudes), look in Cameron’s direction and slyly flirt with him.
While Cameron does acknowledge some of it and humors the conversations, he seems laser-focused on one person in particular – Makayla Underwood, Ethan’s sister.They haven’t interacted very much, but I can tell there’ssomethingthere.The way she brushes a lock of hair behind her ear when she talks to him.The way she casually touches him.The way he leans in to whisper in her ear, and she giggles.
On the surface, it looks like Cameron and Makayla are just having a flirty interaction and nothing more.On a deeper level, I know Cameron, and there’s nothing casual with what he does.Every action has an ulterior motive to it.
Even dating women.
I’m trying to calm the blinding rage I feel that’s going to make me act like Da Brat and bust a champagne bottle over a bitch’s head.Why should I care who Cameron dates?I told him we’re not together.We’re sharing a suite, but we’re in separate bedrooms.Other than family photos, we haven’t gotten physical since that fateful afternoon when we christened my condo.
And that night.
And the next morning.
And practically a few times a week since then.
But we’re not together!
“Hello, bitch?”Hayley snaps her fingers in front of me.
I blink back to the present and turn towards her.“Hey, what’s up?”
“Hey, what’s up is you look like a deer in the headlights, and you are completely missing what’s going on?”She turns my head to where Ethan, his partner Lisa, Que, Cameron, and Roadie are standing.It’s not a simple conversation, and I can tell something is about to go down.
Suddenly, several phones go off and various guests pick up their phones to take the calls.They all said their apologies and hurried off as their spouses looked bewildered.Ethan goes up to Jamie and explains to her what happened, and she has a horrified look on her face.Everyone literally just sat down to eat, and the food is about to be served.
Never missing a beat, Senator Page steps up to the mic with a big smile on his face.That man is a politician through and through.“There was an incident that happened in East Atlanta, but national security is not threatened, and our finest officers are going there right now to handle it, including my new son-in-law!”He led an arousing applause.Various other members of Congress stand up, and suddenly, the cops are treated like celebrities.“But the party is not over, everyone!Enjoy this food, and let’s celebrate my daughter and her new husband!”
As we all watch the various law enforcement officers rush out of the farmhouse, I notice the interaction between Jamie and Cameron.They only stare at each other.
