“Foxglove and hemlock. The first flowers I got you.”

I glance up at him and swallow. No one has ever paid that much attention to me. Emotions rise in my chest. Sawyer searches my gaze, his becoming concerned. “Are you okay?”

I clear my throat. “Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just a little creepy.”

“These mean something. Better than roses. Come here.”

I don’t move. His gaze softens, “It’s a gift, bunny. Let me put this on you.” He holds up the necklace.

“How does it go on?” I ask.

“Goes around here.” He leans over, pulling the necklace around the back of my neck, and I catch his cologne again. He smells amazing. “And I lock it in front.” He fishes in his pocket.

“Wait, don’t lock it.” I pull back.

He doesn’t let me pull away. “That’s the point of a collar, pet.”

I glare. “I’m not your pet.”

Something flashes in Sawyer’s eyes. The darkness is there, hovering on the edges. “Well, you don’t belong to Ben anymore. I took you. Marked you. You sleep in our beds. You fuck us and us only. That makes you mine.”

Heat flares under my skin. “That’s not how relationships work!”

“No?” Sawyer leans in with a smirk. He looks devilishly handsome. “Did you want roses instead?”

“The flowers aren’t the problem!” I sputter. “Ben got me without giving me flowers. You can’t just say I’m yours and have it be true!”

Sawyer’s eyes darken more. “Ben never gave you flowers?”

“You’re missing the point!” I throw my hands up. “You can’t just kidnap me and call it a relationship! I have to have a choice in the matter.”

Sawyer leans close, his breath brushing over me and his voice low and dangerous, “With me, you’ll never have a choice, bunny. I chose you. That means you’re mine. Your life, your breath, your hopes and dreams. You will always belong to me until your dying breath. I will never let you go, Cali.” He stares into my soul. “No matter what you do or how hard you fight. You’re mine. Now put on the fucking collar.”

I swallow.

He grabs the ends of the choker and clicks the lock down. “You’re mine. Get fucking used to it.”

Chapter 31

Sawyer

Ilet her lean back away from me. Her delicate neck looks so pretty in my collar. God, it makes me hard to look at her. She says she doesn’t want it, but her pupils are wide, and her breath comes in tiny pants. She’s a goddamn freak, and she loves it.

“Now.” I lean back. “Where to, boss?”

“I…” she blinks like she forgot we were playing a game. Then she says softly, “I don’t know.”

“I have a place,” I say and pull out from Jenny’s driveway.

“No.” Cali sits up straighter. “We need to ditch the car.”

I smile a little. Smart little fighter. I wasn’t allowed to tell her about the tracker in the truck bed, but clearly she doesn’t trust it.

“Okay.” I swerve the truck to park it in town. Cali hops out, and I grab the backpack of supplies from the back. “We can walk to my spot.”

“Do they know about your spot?” she asks, catching up to me as we walk.

“No,” I say. “It’s just an empty farmhouse. I used to hang out there all the time as a kid.”
