“Of all things, a llama farm.”

“I don’t want to talk about it. Back toHot Finds.I’ve seen Mason on the show with Parker and Ty.”

“That’s right. My cousin and uncles do the show together. Course, it’s not as exciting as my aunt. Claire Jordan is a household name.”

“Harper told me that’s her mom. What’s she like?”

“She’s just a regular person.”

“Harper doesn’t look like her.”

“Those Campbell genes. My uncle Jake is the identical twin of my dad, so the kids in both families look like siblings.”

“Identical twins sounds so fun. I used to wish for an identical twin. Do they run in your family?”

“Well, I’m not sure if that’s genetic, but there is another set of identical twins. Mason’s younger brothers.”

“Do the twins ever switch places and fool people?”

I launch into a family classic. The story of how my uncle Jake and my dad, Josh, switched places. Jake took out Claire, who was expecting Dad. The whole reason was because Dad wanted to take out Mom and prove that she only wanted men with money. Which wasn’t true. That launched an all-out frenemy war between Dad and Mom that’s legend in town.

I finish the story just as we reach the front walk of her house. She’s in high spirits, delighting in the war between my parents, who now look like the perfect loving couple. We arrive at the front porch of Mackenzie and Harper’s house.

“I just love it,” she says. “You’d never know.”

“I’m sure you’ll hear about it eventually. It’s a favorite story both in our family and in town.”

“Is your mom embarrassed about it?”

“She tries to shut it down because she thinks it doesn’t look good for her wedding planning business. She should’ve thought of that before she engaged in war.”

She shakes her head. “She must’ve been so mad at him. Some of the stuff she did!”

“The funny part is, he thought they were just playing around.”

She meets my eyes, getting serious. A tension fills the air between us. I don’t move a muscle.

“I might take the job,” she says.

“Great.”

“Goodnight.” She leans forward just as I shift, her lips meeting mine. A rush of lust goes through me on contact.

She slaps a hand over her mouth. “I meant to kiss you on the cheek, but you moved.”

I lean down and kiss her cheek. She places her hand on my cheek, drawing me in for a real kiss.Yesss. I keep it gentle even as lust surges through my veins.

She leans back, her fingers on her lips, her blue eyes huge.

My lips curve up. “Goodnight.”

I head home, energy coursing through my limbs. I want to pump my fist in the air, but have to satisfy myself with an internal cheer. I knew there was something there.

I glance over my shoulder and catch her watching me go. I lift a hand in farewell, and she hurries to the front door.

I smile to myself and jog the rest of the way home. As long as I keep it light and casual, it’ll be okay. She’s a flight risk.

Part of me wants to fly with her.
