“I don’t believe that.”

He shifts away. “Back to the Matt situation. I told him he was looking at jail time if he showed up here again.”

“And that made him leave?”

“Yeah. Worked like a charm. Well, first I took off his sunglasses, told him to look me in the eye and understand that if I ever see him again, I’ll haul him to jail faster than he can say restraining order.”

“Wow. And then he took off?”

“Not yet. I took his picture while he glared at me, and then I crushed his expensive sunglasses under my foot, he cursed a blue streak, andthenhe took off.”

I wring my hands together. “But what if he sells that story to a gossip rag? I mean, that you threatened him. It’ll be all over the internet.”

“He’s not going to sell a story that implicates him in stalking, especially with the restraining order. Anyway, he started panicking when I mentioned jail and the police, saying he lived here, and when I called him on the lie, he started yelling that he pays taxes.”

My eyes widen. “He sounds crazy.”

“Yup.”

“Do you think he’ll be back?”

“Depends how determined he is.”

“Can I see his picture?”

He shows me his phone.

The hair on the back of my neck stands on end. That’s him. And unlike when I see him trying to be charming to lure me in, in this picture he looks like the frustrated angry man he is.

“I’m scared,” I admit.

“You should be.”

“Oh God, I’ve put Harper and Mackenzie in terrible danger.”

He exhales sharply. “So now you finally listen to reason after you’ve bought the place and moved in.”

I stand. “I have to talk to them.”

I find them upstairs in Mackenzie’s room, setting a mirror over the dresser. “I’m thinking of moving out.”

“What! Already?” Mackenzie says.

“Matt showed up across the street. Now that he knows I’m here, I feel like I’m putting you both at risk.”

Harper pipes up, “Hey, we knew the risk of living with an A-list star. I grew up with one.”

“Yeah,” Mackenzie says. “Besides, Owen’s rigging the place with the best security, and he lives close by. He’ll be with us until your new guard starts, right?”

I let out a shaky breath. “Yes.”

“There you go,” Mackenzie says. “And the police are just a block away.”

Owen appears in the doorway.

Harper plants her hands on her hips. “I just heard you’re sticking around a little longer. How am I supposed to enjoy the orgy with big brother here?”

Owen makes a face of disgust and leaves. Harper grins.
