“What’s the matter?” Rory asked suspiciously.

Ryan looked…off. He soundedoff.

“In a few days, it’ll be three months that she’s gone.”

“Who? Molly?”

“Yeah,” Ryan said, sighing. “I-I miss her. I wish things were different.”

“You wish you’d been different?”

Ryan shrugged. “Something like that.”

“I understand.”

Bowing his head, Ryan shoved his hands in his pockets and kicked at small branches, laying on the forest floor. “I’ve been thinking about talking to Outlaw.”

“About?”

“Everything. Anything. Nothing. I don’t know.”

“Molly?”

“I know Bash is in town,” Ryan said. “Who doesn’t? The entire club knows Aunt Kendall is meeting with him today. My dad, your dad, and Harley’s dad rode out a couple of hours ago.”

Fuck!

“I was thinking about trying to talk to Bash. See if he’s changed his mind about anything—”

“I have to go, Ryan.”

Rory hated to be an asshole, but he didn’t have the fucking time to listen.

“Right,” Ryan said. “Go. I didn’t mean to hold you up. We can talk later.”

“Yeah. Later.” Turning, Rory sprinted away, praying he wasn’t too late.

If Dad was at Mom’s office, disaster was heading their way.

“In the interest of time, I will brief you later, Johnnie,” Kendall said into the silence as he escorted her back to her seat and took the one next to her.

“Why the fuck are your watch and earrings in front of Bash?”

“Because I used the jewelry as payment.”

“You see? You can’t handle Bash on your own. He’s going to keep milking you, Kendall. It’s what he did to me.”

“The payment is foronetransaction,” she gritted. “Not a fucking retainer on the basis of his fucking honesty.”

“I resent you looking so gorgeous and smelling so fucking good for another man.”

She ignored him. “We need to ask Bash about Meggie. I asked you in because you know more about why he first contacted you.” That was no longer true, but she needed to see how deep Johnnie was in with Bash. If he wouldn’t help her, then she’d have her answer.

“Watching you two amuses the fuck out of me,” Bash said.

Kendall plastered a smile on her face. “I’m sure. Listening to you with that woman amused me.”

His eyes crinkled. He knew she didn’t mention Hopper on purpose.
