And now she’s here, standing in front of me.

The crowd goes wild again. “Damn, we better get back to our seats before Gage comes to kick your ass for not watching his highness win again,” Billy says. He claps me on the back, holding a tray of sodas. I turn to follow without saying a word because apparently, I’ve lost all sense of reality and social etiquette. Chelsea reaches out and puts her hand on my forearm.

Electricity.

Lightning.

Sparks.

It shoots up my arm, through my body, and settles in my dick. This girl, no,womanhas always made mefeel. We never once had a problemphysically; we got on like a house on fire. It was more of our emotional and maturity sides that never completely synced up with one another.

I look at her delicate hand on my arm, then into her eyes, still not able to form a coherent word. “Adam, I’d like it if we could get together and talk. I think there are some things we need to work out.”

All I can do is nod. Grace pulls my hand and I go, not because I want to leave CJ but because my feet need to move. I need to do something other than stand here staring at the girl who took my heart when she left town.

Chapter Ten

CHELSEA

Post college graduation—Twelve years ago

“That’s everything!” I yell to Adam as he slams the tailgate of his truck. We’ve just packed up our last four years of college life and are heading to his hometown to start a new life.

Together.

I’m excited and I feel ready for this. I didn’t want to return home, I was dreading it actually, but since making the decision to move with Adam, the nightmares have lessened. I’m taking it as a sign that I’m doing the right thing. When he gave me the ring, it convinced me he was all in. He’s done nothing but show how attentive he is, how caring and how much he wants our relationship to work.

After living through my parent’s tumultuous marriage, I was afraid I’d never be able to find, let alone hold onto, a good man. One who would stay. My other fear was leaving my sister to deal with that drama alone. But Adam has proved me wrong on both occasions. Not only ishe the best boyfriend and strives to be every day, he found a place for both Adley and I to live.

My decision to move back to Adam’s hometown came with a caveat he is not too happy about. I need to live on my own, at least for now. I don’t want to become dependent on a man. I don’t want to be in a situation where I have nowhere to go if something happens.

My therapist thinks I’m trying to control my situation again. And I know Adam views it as if I’m not ready to commit to him, but if anything, my decision is cementing my commitment to him. After I explained to him my goal of living on my own for a while, he relented. It’s not that I don’t want to be with Adam, I just want to be the best version of myself for him. And being on my own, becoming dependent on myself, learning what I can do and not do on my own, what I will and won’t accept, is my way of doing that for him.

I jog down the walkway towards Adam as he comes around to the passenger side. I jump into his arms, wrapping myself around his body. We laugh and I couldn’t be happier.

“You ready to go home, Peaches?”

“You bet.”

We begin our two-and-a-half-hour ride home and I have no nerves whatsoever.

“Have you spoken to Jackson’s sister yet?” Britt Gage is dating the realtor who Adam worked with to get the houses we’re moving into. Bobby Gallagher owns Get Shacked Up Realty and has been working with Adam’s dad for a few months now. It’s a smart concept. Bobby refers homes that Frank Casanova builds and vice versa. Frank will refer Bobby to anyone who is looking to sell or move into the growing town of Christmas.

Adam’s dad has begun new builds and remodels on current homes on the same block, so Britt and Adam already own a home there. My house will be two blocks over and Adley’s is about thirty minutes out. She’s transferring schools to be closer to me and finishing her journalism degree at a college in the city. I’m so proud of her, and happy she’ll be close. I hated being away from her for the years I was in college.

“Yep, we’re all set. We’ll stop by his office and grabthe keys. We’ll dump my boxes at my house and then we can go to your house and get you set up.”

I hear his downcast tone and see that his face matches. I slide closer to him in the truck and run my hand up his thigh, snuggling in. “Don’t pout babe, you know why I need to do this.”

He covers my hand with his, spinning the ring he gave me. His touch is warm and strong. “I know, I just hate being away from you. I’m ready to make this official, Chelsea Jo. I want to wake up with you and fall asleep next to you.”

“Spoken like a true Casanova,” I croon, as he grabs my hand and places it on his cock. I squeeze him and tease him over his shorts.

“I’ll show you a Casanova.” He yanks the truck to the side of the road and throws it into park. Adjusting the steering wheel to go as high as it can, he pulls me onto his lap and nuzzles into my neck. His hot breath in my ear already has my nipples hard and my pussy wet. “Take these shorts off.”

“Adam! Here?” I look around frantically, afraid to be seen by anyone driving past.

“Yes, here. You’ve got me hard as a rock. It’s going to be fast. No one will see us.” I laugh at him as drags my shorts over my hips. It’s a tight fit in the front seat but we make it work. I rock back and forth over him and get my shorts pulled down as he undoes his zipper. I reach in and take him out as he slides my thong to the side. In one motion I positioned him at my entrance, and we thrust together.
