“No? Because you seemed to enjoy my company. A lot.” She rubs her hand on my thigh, sliding up close to my dick. I quickly snatch her hand with mine and pull it away. She grins and winks.
“Grace, I’m sorry. Chelsea and I are working things out. I want to be with her. Our relationship has changed since we last saw each other, and we’ve decided we owe it to our—each other to try to work it out.”
Her face hardens, and in place of the tease she was playing, a vile look flashes across her eyes.
“Whatever, Adam. If you want that selfish bitch to lead you around by your cock, go ahead. But don’t come crying back to me.”
She quickly stands and storms away from the table before I have a chance to correct her.
Just let her go. It’s over now.
Sighing, I sit back down as the guys wander back over with another round.
“How’d that go?”
“I don’t know. She seemed to have made something bigger in her head about us than what was happening.”
“Adam, I told you she was more invested. Just because she wasn’t openly showing it didn’t mean I didn’t see it on her face.”
“You’re right.” I shrug. “It is what it is. We weren’t ever going to be permanent, and I never led her on that way. It’s over now. I told her Chelsea and I were working things out.”
“She going to be trouble for you?”
“What could she do? Say I dumped her? I cheated on her? Everyone knows it’s not like that, and if they think it? It’s on them. I know what I did and what I didn’t do. We dated. We broke up. That’s it.” Reaching for a beer, I sigh out loud, then down half of it, willing it to chase my nerves away.
“Well, now that that’s settled, I want to hear more about boss man Adam!” Billy says, and the guys snicker at him.
“Don’t you mean AAA?” I ask and take another pull from the beer bottle I’m holding. I take in the shift of everyone’s eyes as they look around the table at each other. I raise a brow. “You’re not the only one who’s been spilling big secrets.”
Chapter Twenty-Nine
CHELSEA
“Uncle B is in da house!” Billy comes barging through my front door without a care in the world. I can’t even get mad at him, he’s not an intrusion, he just belongs.
“Hey! There’s my best bud!” He makes a big show of scooping up my son and swinging him around. “What are we doing today?”
“Pway!”
Billy nods, carrying Dominic into the kitchen where I’m setting up his snacks and juice for their afternoon together. “After we play, I think we should cruise around town, pick up some chicks. There's a lot of Barbie’s in this town, which by the way, blondes don’t always have more fun. I found dark brunette girls are the wildest.” When I swing my eyes to him, he leans in close and whispers, “Shh, not in front of your momma, we’ll save that talk for later.”
“Billy!” I chastise him but laugh at his nonsense.
“How about we throw a kegger, order some pizza, on your dad’s bill of course, then ditch and make him clean it up?”
“Pizza!” Dominic claps his hands with excitement.
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good idea either.”
“Okay, you twisted my arm. We’ll head over to Moms’ house, well, Grandma, I guess and have her make us lunch.” He pauses and gives me a sly smile. “Still can’t get used to calling her Grandma.”
Shaking my head at him but smiling at the way Dom is looking adoringly at him, I hand Billy the car seat. “We’re going to have to get a couple more for our cars, it’s getting annoying having to lock this thing in each time.”
“I’ve already got one in my car.”
“What do you mean?” I pause mid-step, studying him.
“Adam bought us one the other day. We all have one now. He even plugged them in for us, we’re all set to roll!” He grabs Dom by the waist and swings him up over his shoulder. Full on baby belly laughs, my favorite, echo around the room as Dom looks at me upside down.
