Chapter 21

Iguess it was irrelevant to say that the night with Ferris ended with the last of my words. I couldn’t be there anymore and he didn’t ask me to stay. I just took my phone and headed straight to the safety of my own bed. Not that anything would ever feel safe anymore after what Ferris and Brax did to me.

The Academy was the last thing on my mind, therefore I refused to take the quilt from over my head until noon. I wasn’t really sleeping. Maybe just hiding from the rest of the world beneath a shallow illusion of protection. But it was time for me to get ready to go to the Pleasure Room. It wasn’t like I could show up at 7:15 and take the 7:30 Pleasure. I had to wait a while so that nothing could connect things to it being a setup.

Nat and Seb weren’t home from school yet which made me think how far we’d progressed. The two being in an Elite school now, when a few months ago they weren’t even allowed to go to attend classes. I didn’t even have time to kiss them goodbye. It’s not like we were really saying goodbye. I was only going to be away for a few hours. Though this time I felt I needed to do it- just in case. I guess I missed that shot too due to my evening spent with Ferris.

Comforting myself with the thought, I got dressed in whatever I found first and left for the Pleasure Room. It was a walk down memory lane as every minute closer was building up the same state of anxiety. Only this time, I wasn’t traveling from the Pit. I was traveling from the Hills. Things had changed, and so had the sheepish girl that first entered through Vanya’s door to discover a whole new universe. A rotten one, yet the only option to salvation.

I couldn’t even remember how exactly I had arrived there, but I found myself standing in front of the wooden carved door, looking at the sculpting grinning back at me. It took every drop of courage I possessed to push it open, knowing that once I walked into the room there was no way back. All eyes were staring at me the instant I passed through the door. I knew most of the people present there, but there were two girls that I’d never seen before. Poor souls.

A friendly face I hadn’t seen in a while came to greet me. Laura, the person that made the experience so much easier to handle, especially since I was a newbie at socializing— amongst other things.

‘I haven’t seen you around, stranger,’ Laura spread her arms to hug me, as I responded to her gesture.

‘I needed a vacation,’ I smiled, trying to avoid the subject.

‘After only two weeks!?’ Laura giggled, knowing that I was lying. ‘This had something to do with the pleasure at the mansion up in the Hills. Didn’t it?’

‘Maybe just a little,’ I still didn’t want to get into too many details with her. ‘Do you still have coffee around here?’ I asked, looking towards the beverages area.

‘I wouldn’t come to work otherwise,’ Laura caught me by the arm and guided me to the table while a red envelope just sneaked through the door. ‘You’re kinda newtoday, so you can take the Pleasure if you want,’ she let me know while the girl who grabbed the letter was signaling me to go and read it.

‘I need to reacquaint myself to the place. You take it. I’ll open the next,’ I let her know as I was pouring myself a cup of coffee.

‘They probably won’t be as kind with you as you are with them,’ Laura cared to let me know, even though in reality I didn’t plan on staying. But she wasn’t aware of that yet.

‘That’s ok. I wasn’t expecting to take the first Pleasure.’ And the truth was, I didn’t expect to walk through the door and be served an envelope, especially since I wasn’t exactly a newbie anymore.

The next few envelopes came requesting specific employees, so I didn’t need to find an excuse not to pick them up. I only opened one

Thatcould have actually been fun, but I refused, claiming I had food poisoning two days ago, and my stomach was still too sensitive to eat who knows what they would serve. I was becoming an ace at improvising, especially with the role of my life coming up in a few hours. And the letter that was bringing it finally arrived under the door.

‘Don’t take this Pleasure,’ Laura sneaked up on me, asking me to decline, probably knowing that I never went beyond the agreed limits of a Pleasure.

She was right to warn me, but this time the hidden warning was exactly what had brought me back to the Pleasure Room. ‘Sorry, but I can’t pass out on this one,’ I answered nodding that I accept the Pleasure.

‘No, you don’t understand. He will ask more of you,’ Laura tried to clarify things.

‘I can’t refuse. I need the money,’ I whispered, walking towards the changing room to get ready while her disappointed gaze followed me to the door. I couldn’t tell her the truth. Whatwasthe truth, after all? I was still selling my body, exactly as she assumed, just not to the person she was thinking of.

I was a girl on a mission and that meant I had several parts to my plan. After picking up a black lace bodycon dress and a sexy coat to go with it, I refreshed my makeup, fixed my hair a little. Well not really a little; more like somewhere around 45 minutes, but finally, I was done. All I had to do was to put my new earrings and earpiece on.
