She paused and looked like she was giving it some serious thought.

“I know you probably don’t want to give out details of your case but I thought I’d throw it out there because you seem like you’re stuck.”

“Yeah, okay. Cable is your nerd, I take it?”

“That would be right.” I felt a little bad that I hadn’t introduced them but then again, Cable spent a lot of his time in his room.

“The guy that probably knows how often I buy vibrators and what kind by now?”

“And how kinky you like your porn,” I added with a laugh. “Wait, how often do you… never mind. Don’t answer that.”

“I go through like three a year,” she said casually as she picked up her bag and walked out the door.

It took me a moment to process what she said and catch up with her.

“Cable’s at the end here. We can stop by before we get something to eat. He’ll probably have something for you by the time we’re done.”

“Okay,” she said with a shrug.

As I expected, Cable was in his room doing something on his computer.

“You mind checking into something?” I asked him just to make sure he wasn’t already loaded down with stuff to do.

“Nah, man. Whatcha got?” He closed a couple of things before he turned to face us. “Oh, hi. You must be Bridget.”

“The one and only,” she replied as she shook his outstretched hand.

“Bridge has hit a couple of walls in her case.”

“I feel like I’m on a wild goose chase. My partner gave me a name and an address to sit on but I think the building is empty. I watched it all night and there was no movement, and honestly, there wasn’t much on the street either.”

“Give me what you’ve got,” he said with a nod.

She handed over the file, which didn’t seem all that thick in my opinion.

“We’re going to go grab some food then we’ll come back,” I said.

“Sounds good.”

“Want anything?”

“Nope, I’m good. Thanks, brother.”

He turned his attention back to his computer before we even made it out of the room.

“You’re looking at me weird,” she said as we walked to the kitchen.

“No, I’m not,” I replied a little defensively.

Truth was, I had no idea what was going through her head, and maybe even mine.

I’d never really done the whole next day thing and when I had, it always was strained.

“We boned and you’re stuck with me until I can get out of here. Don’t make it weird. It doesn’t have to be a thing and if you liked it enough, we can bone again. Hell, we can do it until I have to go.”

“It’s just like that?” I asked as I scratched the back of my neck. I wasn’t sure that I liked the way that she put it but I couldn’t pinpoint why.

She didn’t answer and I stopped in the entryway to the kitchen. She walked on, making her way to the stove. As she grabbed a plate, I walked over and stopped her.
