Jameson

When I asked for some time off so I could go to LA, Reed insisted on sending me there in his plane. I was too distracted and excited to argue.

The last two weeks leading up to this moment had been filled with calls, text, and even a few video chats. We’d talked about what was to come and Nick constantly assured me this was what he wanted to do.

So here I was, waiting for the all-clear to exit the plane. I had a week’s worth of clothes because I sure as hell wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity. Nick was just going to have to live with me staying that long.

And there he was, standing too far away from me in jeans, a black tee, and a ball cap pulled down low over his face. The moment I stepped out of the plane, his head tilted back and I got a much-needed glimpse of his brown eyes.

Fuck, I’d missed him.

He must have missed me too because the instant my boots were on solid ground, he ran for me. I dropped my bag so I could wrap my arms around him when his body crashed into mine.

It was unexpected from him, but so fucking welcomed. I sighed. He sighed. And we just held on to each other for a long time.

“I’m so stupid,” he breathed out against my neck. “I’m so sorry.”

I just held him tighter hoping he understood all the things I couldn’t say.

“Are you ready?” I asked him, forcing myself to step back and take in a big breath of air.

“Well, isn’t that a loaded question,” he replied with a short laugh. Then his face grew serious as he gave me his eyes. “I’m ready. For everything, if the offer still stands.”

“No,” I said with a straight face. “I think I flew all the way out here just to tell you that I’m retracting my offer.”

“Oh… wait… you’re kidding, right? Tell me you’re kidding.”

I laughed as I pulled him back into my body. I kissed the side of his face before whispering into his ear.

“I’m by your side, Nicky. I love you and I’m ready to face anything with you.”

“It’s about to get crazy,” he warned me. “Like, I don’t know if you understand how crazy. They will dig up everything on you. You won’t be able to hide…”

“As far as the world knows, I’m Jameson McCoy, former Security Detail for Nick Sterling. I grew up in northern Montana and have lived a boring as fuck life. Currently, I’m a low-level Tech Rep for Willis Security Tech and live in Atlanta.”

“Oh, really. So…” he said, drawing out the word as he grabbed my hand and back, then walked us over to the waiting car. I had a good idea that he wasn’t just a low-level anything. And I knew he wasn’t from Montana. “About your job, and now this new information that I have, you don’t work for Reed as a bodyguard, do you?”

Well, I knew this was going to come up at some point. I’d never planned on hiding it from him but I had hoped not to throw it on him right before his big moment. He sure as fuck didn’t need anything else to think about.

The back door to the town car behind Nick popped open and Jen flung his head out, giving me the chance to get out of answering Nick’s question for now.

“Come on. We don’t have all day. If we’re going to do this then let’s go.” Jen smiled wide at me and that smile said a lot of things. I was in for something, that was for sure.

“What’s he talking about?” I asked as Nick playfully pushed me into the car.

Jen sat facing us, the driver behind him. Nick slid in next to me and I took a minute to adjust to everything. Nick had a driver. And a bodyguard which was clear to tell from the other man sitting in the front seat.

“I’m not fighting it anymore,” Nick said reading my face. “Besides, I want us to have a real date before things get crazy. An official beginning to us, I guess.”

“We’re going out?” Okay, maybe I wasn’t prepared for this.

“Sort of,” he said and he looked a little shy right now. “We’re going… to the grocery store.”

I blinked at him for a few beats.

Then my face lit up with a smile.
