Something so simple was so big for him, and I knew it.

Not only had he told me that he’d stopped doing his own grocery shopping, which he loved, this would also grab attention. There would more than likely be photos taken of us and out to the world soon enough. I had been ready for tomorrow. For the premiere and the red carpet or what-the-fuck-ever. For the bomb to explode then. But it looked like he was ready for it now.

“I want to cook you dinner,” he said softly.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Jen was busying himself on his phone. The partition was now up and the interior of the car had gone quiet.

I pulled him in for a kiss. I made sure to keep it PG, though I was dying to get my fill of him.

“You don’t have to stop,” Jen said. “I don’t mind watching.”

Then we all laughed.

“No,” I said easily. “The only one watching Nick will be me.”

“Does the same go for you?” Nick asked with a raised brow.

“Definitely.”

“You guys are lame.” Jen huffed playfully. “I’m going to need one of you to vouch for me. When we get back to Atlanta, someday, I want in to Pike.”

“He hasn’t let it go has he?” I asked already knowing the answer.

“Nope,” Jen answered before Nick could. “And there’s only one way to get me to shut up about it.” He tossed a wink at me.

“I just realized how much I missed you,” I told Jen with a smile.

Yeah, he might have been bold and in-your-face about pretty much everything. But he was a beautiful ray of sunshine and I knew life wouldn’t be the same without him in it. Which was good because I already figured out that I didn’t get Nick without Jen. And that was something I was alright with.

“Awww. Really?” I gave him a nod. “I missed you too. But mostly because this asshole has been so mopey. Please, for the love of all things glittery, fuck him senseless while you’re here.”

He didn’t have to worry about that. As soon as we got a moment alone, I was getting Nick naked.

“Alright, Nickie Boy, how do you want to do this?” Jen asked in his mission-mode voice.

“I have no idea, Jen. I just thought of this idea on the way to pick him up.” Nick turned to me looking a little apologetic. “Not the dinner thing. I already had that planned. The other thing. I was thinking… maybe we could take a selfie.” He cringed. “I know, you’re probably not a selfie guy. I should have asked. I’m just… I’m ready and I don’t want to wait now that I have you.”

He was, honestly, the cutest thing I’d ever seen. No, I wasn’t a selfie kind of person. I don’t think I’d ever taken one in my life. Not even with Kelly. But for him, I’d do this. I could only imagine how horrible it would look but, hey, I said I was in this and I knew what I was signing up for.

“Let’s do it now,” I blurted out.

“Now? Here? I was thinking we could do something cute in the grocery store like—”

“What? Hold up eggplants and caption it ‘look at what I’m getting stuffed with tonight’ or something equally horrible?” Jen snorted at his own joke.

I couldn’t hold back my smile and Nick rolled my eyes.

“Now. Here,” I said quickly. “Then we’ll go shopping, not think about it, and when we’re done, you can decide what you want to do with it. Post it. Don’t post it. Wait until later.”

Jen handed over his phone.

With shaky hands, Nick brought the camera up. Then he put his face next to mine. He looked nervous and terrified. Not like I was his boyfriend, more like I’d kidnapped him.

Just as he went to hit the button, I turned my face and kissed his cheek. The click went off and it was done.

He pulled the picture up to look at it and it was perfect. There was no other way to describe it. That one move had made him melt and it was clearly captured in the photo.

Love.
