When he finished, he finally met my eyes again.

“So, I take it I’ll live,” I said flatly but couldn’t stop the twitch of my lips.

He snorted at me, but the smile he couldn’t fight was worth him thinking I was an idiot.

But it didn’t go unnoticed how his eyes dropped down to my lips for a long beat.

Sadly, I would have said that the pain had been worth the moment I’d gotten of him taking care of me. If it had gotten me that one hint that he didn’t completely hate me.

Yep, I was totally gone for the man.

Which I was pretty sure wasn’t a good thing.

But what could I do?

Not a damn thing since I knew there was no way I’d be able to shake this connection even if I desperately wanted to.
