I slept for a long time. Or at least it felt that way. Every time I rose to the surface, I couldn’t get my eyes to open, so I slipped away again.

I felt safe. I felt comforted. So there was no reason for me to fight sleep.

Finally, I was able to open my eyes. Though I did have to pry my lids apart. That felt kind of gross, and I had this urge to go wash my face.

It took me a moment to realize where I was, but then I felt heat against my bare back. And only my back. His arm wasn’t around me. His leg wasn’t thrown over my hip. His face wasn’t in my neck.

Curiosity got to me, and I rolled over so quickly that my bladder felt like it was about to explode. That left me wondering just how long I’d been out. Yeah, I really had to pee, but I also didn’t want to get out of bed.

“What are you doing?” I asked. My voice sounded rough and thick with sleep. I cleared my throat, but I could tell it wasn’t going away.

Remy was sitting with his back against the headboard. He had something in his lap, and I could see from the brightly colored pages that it was a comic book. However, since my eyes were still blurry, and I didn’t have my glasses on, I couldn’t see which one it was.

His chest was bare, and it looked so inviting. Without thinking about it, I scooted until my head rested on his shoulder and my hand settled on his stomach.

“I’m being careful with them, I promise,” he told me. “And I know where they go, so I won’t get them all mixed up.”

Tilting my head back, I looked into his eyes. It was an odd angle, but I went with it.

“I trust you,” I said to him. Then he brushed his lips across mine before giving me a sweet kiss. Between my bladder and my gross mouth, I couldn’t put off the trip to the bathroom any longer. “Hold that thought.”

I rolled out of bed, fighting against the dizziness as I ran across the room. I peed and brushed my teeth in record time, and was back in the bed, shoving my glasses on my face before he probably knew what had hit him.

Yes, he was doing that thing where he chuckled at me under his breath. I had come to like it when he did that because I felt the love in it.

I was once again curled up against him, with my head resting on his shoulder.

“That’s a good one,” I told him, seeing that he was deep into Avengers: The Children’s Crusade. Issue number four, to be exact. “You should’ve read Young Avengers first.”

“I already did that,” he said, causing my head to lift off of his shoulder so I could look at him. “I read both of them, actually. And then I realized I should have read this one between. I might need your help on the reading order because I feel like there’s something I might have missed.”

“How long was I asleep?” I asked, trying to figure that answer out myself, but there was no way I could. I’d lost time, and I wasn’t sure I liked that feeling.

“A little over twenty hours,” he told me. His hand came up and his fingers combed through my hair slowly. “Your dad’s here. After I brought you back and he knew you were safe, he drove Lorna home and then came back.”

What?

“He came back?” I asked, confused.

“Yeah.” He kissed the top of my head. “I think he is really worried. He asks for an update every time I go downstairs.”

That was something to process, but I didn’t want to do that now. I needed just a little bit of time. For now, I wanted to stay right here, wrapped up in Remy and figuring out why he was reading my comics. Maybe just like one more hour. I did realize it wasn’t fair to leave my father waiting if he was worried about me, as Remy seemed to think.

“Um, so, why are you reading this?” I asked him.

“I needed to know what it was about these two that you like so much,” he replied with a shrug, like it wasn’t a big deal.

Why did that make me warm all over? He was reading these because of me. Because he wanted to know about the things that I liked. Because he wanted to understand. Okay, so clearly that not only had feelings swirling around, but it also made me extremely horny.

“I now know that before he was called Wiccan, he went by Asgardian,” he went on. It was kind of cute how he was schooling me on one of my favorite superheroes. “And I can say that you would definitely be the Wiccan in this relationship. I see why you gravitate toward him. You’re kind of the same, actually. And I guess I’m more like Hulkling, seeing as I did kind of impulsively come up with this idea to be your boyfriend.”

“Put the comic book somewhere safe,” I told him. “Now.”

His eyes went wide before he said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—” He frantically, but carefully, slid it back into its bag and set it safely aside on the table next to the bed. “I didn’t mean to make you mad.”

“I’m not mad,” I told him as I moved to straddle his lap. “I’m turned on.”

I barely saw the smile stretch across his face before I mashed my lips against his.
