“You’re so fucking sexy, Mi,” he told me, his tone soft and sweet, despite his words. “I love you, baby. So damn much.”

“I would say that works out quite well. Right?”

His arms squeezed around me, and I heard a low chuckle in my ear. Then his lips were there at the top of my spine, leaving a lingering kiss there.

I could hear the smile in his voice when he replied, “I would say it’s perfect.”

“When you said makeup, this kind of thing did not come to mind,” Reese said, glancing at Kyle with a strange look in his eyes.

I stood there in nothing but a pair of boxers in the middle of Milo’s living room. I felt a little exposed and kinda nervous.

“You get to ogle him while you do it,” Kyle said, causing both Reese and me to snort.

“I’m sure Milo would just love that,” Reese came back with. “I am not a home-wrecking slut, okay. All other kinds of slut, yes, but not that one.”

“You couldn’t take him away from Milo if you tried,” Kyle said, smiling at me.

“That’s true,” I agreed. “My heart belongs to another.”

“Oh my God. Please, stop,” Kyle said, laughing. “It’s still weird to me… the whole you and Milo thing. But… you two are really cute together.”

I shrugged. Milo was mine. He made sense to me. And that was really all that mattered.

“Let’s get started,” Reese said, coming at me with a weird spongy thing covered in makeup.

“You know Hulkling is a shapeshifter,” Reed said, coming into the living room after changing in the spare bedroom. I would have said he looked ridiculous, but I had absolutely no room to talk. “He can be flesh-colored.”

“I know,” I said, lifting up my arm so that Reese could apply the green tint to the underside. “But I think Milo likes the green.”

And I really did know. Because I was now a comic book nerd. I blamed Milo. Though, I didn’t really hate it. I liked how he would ask me to read them to him while we were in bed. We’d sit against the headboard, our heads pressed together while I did. On the flip side, Milo was now a video game type of nerd. The PS5 never did leave his room. He even let me keep the red controller, though he never touched it. So, hey, we both helped each other to grow.

Reed laughed. I think there was a part of him that got it.

My plan had been to surprise Milo with this. Yes, surprise, even knowing he didn’t like surprises. I hoped he would like this one. I was going to take him to Comic-Con. I’d even had a Wiccan costume made for him. Which, let me tell you, was not easily done. I had to get his measurements and be sneaky about it. I’d found someone local that made cosplay costumes, and she had done an amazing job. I would be getting her to do things in the future. I knew this wouldn’t be a one-and-done kind of thing. Nope. Especially not with the way this had seemed to turn into a family affair.

Reed was going as Gambit. He was changing here since his partners, Keith and Tony, wanted to surprise him with their outfits. They were currently getting ready at the penthouse Reed had in the middle of the city that they rarely stayed at.

Silvie was going as Ash, and she had somehow talked her best friend, Mountain, into dressing up as a giant Pikachu. I had no idea if Theon or Cade decided on anything or not, but they would at least be there. Though Cade had told me that Silvie had tried to talk them into being other Pokémon. That little girl had a way of talking people into things, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up looking like cute, strange monsters.

The lock on the front door turned over, and it wasn’t a second later that it began to swing open.

Shit! He was early.

I think we all froze in place. My eyes were wide as Milo stepped over the threshold. His gaze bounced around to every single one of us in the room. His brows pulled together as he took in Reese, Kyle, and me. They were still in the process of making me green.

This looked really bad, I was sure.

“Uhhhh…” Reese finally said, breaking the silence.

“You’re back early,” I said, sounding a little panicked.

“I sent you a message,” Milo told me. Right. I had no idea where my phone was. “Why are you green? Is this some kind of superhero kink thing?” He paused. I could tell by his stare that he was thinking something. Give it one second and it would come out. “Wait, are you making a porno? I might have to watch it to understand why you thought of this idea.”

“Oh, Lord,” Reese said under his breath.
