“Deal,” I said, not making a move to get up.
As much as I wanted to get out for a bit, I was more desperate to cling to this connection a little while longer.
CHAPTER TWO
Wrench
The second I opened my eyes, the guilt hit me all over again. Because, while I knew in my heart Evan hadn’t had anything to do with burning the bar down, I’d still had many moments of doubt over the last week.
So, yeah I felt guilty, and I couldn’t seem to stop it from eating away at me.
The thoughts were only mildly drowned out when I heard the noise coming through the wall. The one I shared with my best fucking friend.
And now my sister, I guessed.
“So, I’m guessing that’s a thing now? Officially?” Evan said with a low, groggy chuckle.
I groaned and shoved the pillow over my head. At least they seemed to be playing around and not… doing things no brother should have to hear his sister do.
Evan continued to laugh at my nightmare as he snuggled against my side, his head going to my chest.
“Be happy for them,” he said sweetly.
“I am, but that doesn’t mean I want to hear that shit,” I grumbled, and knew it was muffled by the pillow.
“Payback’s a bitch,” he said, causing me to groan again. His chest covered mine, and I was half hoping he was reaching for the lube. “You got a message.”
I lifted my head, losing my pillow buffer, to see him holding up my phone. I pressed my thumb to the screen, unlocking it, and quickly pulled up the message.
“Got Church,” I told him, squinting at the screen. “And Prez wants you there.”
His brows shot up in surprise, but before he could say anything, there was a knock on the door.
“Hold on,” I called out.
Evan and I both jumped out of bed and started pulling on clothes. I didn’t bother with a shirt or doing up the buttons on my jeans as I walked over to open the door. I had a feeling it was gonna be Sidekick.
“Need Row’s clothes,” my best friend and now noisy neighbor said as he stepped inside. I pointed at the space beside my desk where I’d set the three bags of crap I brought back from that shitty motel room Row’d been staying at. He clapped me on the shoulder. “Thanks. We got Church.”
“Yeah, I just saw. Prez wants Ev there,” I said, feeling a little weird ’cause it was like I was talking about him as if he wasn’t in the room.
“Yeah, he wants Sparrow there too,” Trav said, grabbing up Row’s stuff.
“Hey, so, can we talk about this noise situation?” I asked.
Travis paused, brow going up as he looked at me for a long moment. His eyes slid over to Evan, and I turned just in time to see Evan rolling his eyes.
“Noise situation?” Trav asked, looking back at me.
“Yeah, like, if you’re going to be over there with my sister doing—” I stopped and gagged. Evan nailed me with a pillow to the back of the head. “Can we like set up a time so I can not be here?”
“You know all those times you use my room when I’m not there?” I actually felt my cheeks get a little red at his question. Yeah, so sometimes when Cat stayed the night, Evan and I would sneak over to the room next door to have a moment of private time. Travis gave me a key, so I figured he wouldn’t hate it if I used it as long as he wasn’t there. And it wasn’t like we ever did it in his bed. I understood boundaries. “Payback’s a bitch,” he finally said when I couldn’t seem to come up with an answer.
Evan barked out a laugh.
“That’s whatIsaid.” There was way too much excitement in Evan’s tone, and even more in the fist bump he shared with Trav.
“How does that work out?” I shrieked. My eyes narrowed at Evan. “You need to be receiving payback just as much as I do.”
