“Maybe I need a new beginnings tattoo also.”

She jumped up and down and chose a spot on my arm above my current tattoo and sat on my lap watching with an Eagle eye while the tattoo artist got to it.

She doesn’t know it yet, but this tattoo is a new beginning for us.

TWENTY-ONE

ALLIE

FORCEFIELD

I insisted we check out a cigar bar where we shared a Tequila Sunrise and just one more shot.

I decided that it’s not called slurring your words. Nope, it’s called talking in cursive and it’s fucking elegant.

We wove through the crowds on the sidewalk, and I would’ve sworn it was noon by the sheer number of people out and about, but it was, well, late. I looked at my phone to check the time, but my drinking vision wasn’t cooperating. It was something o’clock.

With Levi at my side and liquor pumping through me, I was floating. And do you know what? When I ran into people and a parking meter, it didn’t even hurt. Not a lick. Yes, tequila had put a force field around klutzy Allie, and I was protected from all ouchies.

I rested my head on his shoulder while the driver took us home. Once out of the car I walked into the house using my super model walk while Levi whooped and hollered.

But that didn’t happen. Nope. Levi extended his hand to help me out of the car; I missed and ended up sprawled out on my stomach on the snowy ground as I laughed to tears. Once on my feet Levi wiped the snow from my tummy, and I made it to the front door.

He spoke in a dramatic whisper. “I’m learning you against the house while I unlock the door.”

I cackled. “You’re learning me against the house!”

He leaned in close, and we laughed so hard my cheeks hurt. Once through the front door he scooped me up in his arms and took me up the stairs while my head hit the wall three times. Again, no pain. Tequila = magic.

Once in his room he tossed me on the bed a little too hard, I bounced, and landed on the other side on the floor.

He was there in an instant and pulled me to my feet.

I giggled. “You kind of make me fall down a lot.”

He laughed. “How can I ever make it up to you?”

TWENTY-TWO

LEVI

SHE FELT LIKE HOME

Once I helped her up after accidentally throwing her over the bed, I held her against the wall and her body pressed into mine as she pushed my jacket off my shoulders and her fingers traveled beneath my shirt. I leaned down kissing her neck while my hand found the hem of her dress and slid underneath as the sweetest sigh escaped her.

Her hands were shaking as she unbuttoned my shirt before pulling it down my arms. She was moving and restless. I fisted her hair and her eyes found mine. “I could have every inch of you pressed against me and I’d still say I wasn’t close enough.”

Her lips brushed against mine igniting fire that fed my hunger for her. But when she dropped on the bed her eyes closed, and she smiled. “I think the tequila just made me a little sleepy, but I want you to do all the things to me, okay?”

I chuckled as I pulled her heels off. “Is that right?”

She inhaled deeply. “Yeah, you go boy. I’m ready.”

“Let’s get you out of this dress?—”

“Now you’re talking.”

“Why don’t you sleep for a bit?”
