“We’re going out tonight,” I blurted, even though I was nervous as hell. I had no idea why I was taking such a reckless step.
Naturally, the man burst out laughing right in my face. I mean, when in his life would he ever expect to hear something like that coming from me?
Yeah, I actually called him over just to tell him we were going out for drinks tonight at some random bar in Miami—with no plan to come back anytime soon.
“To what do I owe the honor? Oh, and if this is a prank, I’ll be really pissed, you can bet on that.”
“I’m tired of staying home.And it’s not a prank.”
This was all Isabelle’s fault. Seeing her every day was driving me insane, and I couldn’t exactly ask her to stop crossing paths with me in my own house.
“So where are we going?A bar? A club? A swingers’ party?”
Jesus Christ…
“Do I look like someone who goes to those places?”
“You never know. The quiet ones are always the worst.”He shrugged.
“I’m not quiet!”I snapped, louder than I intended.
“You’re just... stiff.”
Henry kept teasing me, and like an idiot, I kept taking the bait.Damn the moment this idea to go out crossed my mind.
“Make yourself at home for a few minutes. I’m gonna get ready, then we’ll head out.”
“I’ll be in the game room playing pool—getting warmed up.”
“Whatever.”
“Don’t take too long. It’s already a miracle you invited me out. I don’t wanna give you time to change your mind.” He walked toward the game room.
“I’m a man of my word,” I said, though deep down, I was already starting to regret leaving the mansion at all.
ISABELLE CAMPBELL
Night had fallen, and Lauren and I went out for a few drinks to unwind. She’d worked her ass off all week, and it was her idea to go out and “clear her head.”
“Your boss is such an asshole, girl.”
“Yeah…”
My mind was miles away.I felt guilty for hating him, but at the same time, I wanted him. What the hell was wrong with me?
Lauren had no idea about my last adventure with Colin, and I was debating whether to tell her. She’d probably lose it, considering how often I trash-talk him to her.
How could I suddenly say I practically slept with the ogre in his own bed? Worse—how could I admit that I was the one who went after him, the one who practically threw myself into his arms?
“I don’t have nerves of steel like you do. I’d have quit the first time he was rude to me.” She took a sip of her margarita, and I did the same.
“It’s called needing to keep a good job,” I said, though deep down, I knew it was more than that. I’d grown used to theplace—and the people. I could see a good side to Colin, one he tried to hide with everything he had.
The bar started getting crowded, and soon, a few men were staring at us. I felt desired, and honestly, I needed that. It had been a while since I’d been with anyone—except for Colin, and that crazy night when I let my body say everything I couldn’t.
“You’re only leaving here alone if you want to,” Lauren teased, tilting her head toward a guy who couldn’t take his eyes off our table.Translation: off me.
“Maybe I should take advantage of that, huh?”I smirked, feeling a spark of mischief rise in my chest.
