“Great. I started working with the team at the hospital and helping set everything up,” she said, giving me a small smile. I nodded.
“I’m glad you’re keeping yourself busy….” I glanced at Channing, who was smiling.
“We sure are. We’re almost done with the final bits and our pack is complete,” he said with a nod. Rick nodded as he forked some noodles up.
“We finished as planned on schedule. I think that calls for drinks.” He raised his glass of juice.
“It does, only I have Uni tomorrow,” Robyn reminded him. I smirked, pulling her close and kissing her.
“I’m sure missing one day won’t hurt, right…?”
“I’m not missing Uni.” She smiled, and I felt a sense of déjà vu.
“Understood.” I smiled back at her, thinking she was passionate about everything she did.
As long as you stay up late tonight… that black dress looks fucking fine on you, baby girl,I remarked through the link.
I’ll enjoy you tearing it off later…she replied, her hand smoothly reaching over and caressing my thigh. She paused as if realising something before tilting her head.
“Everything okay?” I asked her, lifting her hand to my lips and kissing it.
“Yeah… what’s the date?”
“Twelfth?” I frowned in concern. She nodded.
“Hmm…”
“Is everything okay, Robyn?” Mom asked her.
I had to admit I loved their bond; Robyn had always taken care of Momma, and when she had found out we were mates, she had been in tears out of happiness.
“Yeah…” Robyn said, forcing a smile, but something was wrong. I could feel it through the bond.
“Baby, what is it?”
“Robyn?” Rick asked sharply.
“My period’s late,” Robyn said, abruptly standing up.
My heart skipped a beat as I realised what she had said. From the time we spent together, she was always on time… heck, twenty-eight-day cycle and then five days on.
“Oh…” Channing said before wriggling his eyebrows. “Do we see another Nicholson on the way?”
“Are you two using anything?” Mom asked worriedly.
“Momma, seriously?” I said as Rick choked on his drink.
“Can we not do this right now?” He cringed. “Robyn?” I looked at her. She was standing there frozen. I got up, pulling her into my arms.
“Hey… whatever it is, we’ll deal with it. Maybe it’s just a change…” I said, unsure of how to feel. Her reaction was worrying me. I knew she had Uni and plans ahead for so much more. “Excuse us.”
I pulled her down the hall and into the bathroom, shutting the door behind us, my heart thudding as I stared at my gorgeous mate who was just… not reacting.
“Baby…” She blinked when I cupped her face and tilted her head up towards mine. “If you aren’t ready…” Just the thought that filled my head made my heart sting. She placed her finger on my lips, shaking her head.
“Don’t. I’m just… shocked… I mean, I don’t know if I am… but if I am, then we’ll be fine. I just, I don’t want to get excited and then realise it was just a false alarm,” she whispered the last part, and it took me a second to realise what she had just said.
“Wait… you don’t mind having a baby?” She looked up at me, a smile spreading on that gorgeous face of hers.
