I tightened my fingers around the sharp edge of the star. I had no problem telling the truth about a great many things, but this damn Killian next to me who asked too many questions and already knew too much…
He wouldn’t be stupid enough to ask me in front of everyone why Earth Space Fleet had captured me. Would he?
Fuxx, fuxx,fuxx.
“If you have a black star, please reveal it now,” Pete said.
I did. Nera, who didn’t have one, looked over and raised an eyebrow, the slightest smile cupping her lips. Next to me, the Killian didn’t say a word, just crossed his arms and jiggled his right foot.
Which meant trouble. From both of them.
“Ladies first,” Pete announced. “Bling, let’s start with you. You can ask anyone Truth or Dare.”
“Um, okay.” Pink, the same color as her sparkly top that barely contained her three breasts, tinged her cheeks when her gaze landed on the Killian. “Miekil, I… I dare you to kiss me.”
Yes. Distract him, scramble up his brain until he couldn’t think straight.
“My pleasure.” He rose and strode toward her, and once she met him halfway across the platform, she speared her fingers into his long green hair.
As their mouths slanted over each other’s, everyone cheered while I fought off the urge to gag. I had no need to watch a Killian try to swallow someone whole.
“Okay, well…” Pete stepped around them. “It seems as though they won’t be stopping soon, so let’s move on. Cap— I mean, Nera, it’s your turn.”
Smiling, she stood and aimed a look at me that suggested I was in serious trouble.
“Maxx,” she purred, tightening everything in my lap underneath the black star. “What is your biggest regret?”
Oh. That wasn’t what I expected at all.
The sounds of slurping and moaning faded as the Killian broke away from his kiss to listen.
My biggest regret… It came to me easily.
“My biggest regret is not telling my daughter enough that I love her. I’d tell her every hour of every day if she could stand it,” I rasped out, raw emotions instantly scraping my throat raw.
Goddess, I missed my Roxxy-Boxxy, her ethereal glow, her energy, her intelligence, her laughter even while rolling her eyes at my bad dad jokes. I missed her so much that it often took my breath away.
“Well, I’m sure she’ll be watching,” Pete said, a soft smile on his face.
I smiled back, touched at the reminder. Yes, she probably would be watching. Horrified at the spectacle of her dad, but watching all the same.
Nera sat back in her chair, head bowed, and tears streaking down her face.
My hearts clenched as I shot up out of my seat and went to her.
She’d asked for the truth, and I’d given it to her without thinking how it would affect her. That was likely her same regret, and I’d just revealed it without letting her gently peel it back for herself.
I sank into Bling’s empty seat and folded her into my arms so she could melt against me and rid herself of all her burdens that I hadn’t placed on her myself. Because I had placed a burden on her. She just didn’t know it yet.
“Okay,” Pete began, “next up is—”
“I choose Sal,” yellow-tentacled Nacket announced. “Truth or Dare?”
The game continued, not quite into a full orgy but close, until it was my turn.
“I choose the Killian,” I announced, without moving out of Nera’s embrace.
“You do know he has a name, right?” Pete whispered out of the corner of his mouth. “It’s Miekil, in case you forgot.”
