“Exactly.” Pete glanced down at what the Killian had given him.
A rubber slingshot.
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” Pete hissed.
The Killian patted his cheek. “Wouldn’t want you to hurt your face or dick accidentally, now would we? Just stay behind us.”
The door burst open then. A flood of angry Earth Space Fleet officers came pouring in.

Chapter eight
Maxx
Bulletszingedeverywhere.
The three of us scattered for cover, the Killian in one direction, and me hauling Pete behind a stack of wooden crates against the wall.
A Space Fleet officer plowed around the stack, gun raised. I swiped out with my machete, creating a deep gash in his gun hand. He cried out and went down, but more footsteps pounded toward us to take his place.
Pete reached out to take his fallen gun, but I stopped him with the bloody blade of my machete.
“Do you know how these work?” I demanded.
His jaw dropped, like he couldn’t believe I had the gall to ask him that, but then he sullenly shook his head. “So I guess I’ll just slingshot it at someone.”
“Your best idea yet,” I agreed and emptied the clip, including the bullet in the chamber, and handed the gun to him. “Stick to me. Take their weapons when they drop them.”
