“No. God, I—” He took a breath. “Look, don’t tell the guys, because I’ll lose my credibility as a hard-ass, but… I like you too. I don’t want you to go anywhere. I’d like to see where this goes.”
“Yeah?”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
I gave him a soft smile and nodded. “Me too.” After a moment, I moved to kiss him before realizing that we were both still covered in lube and cum and whatever else. “Hold that thought. Where do you keep the washcloths?”
Jake laughed and gestured to the bathroom. “Cabinet under the sink.”
A few minutes later, we were both clean and Jake was holding me close to him once again. We kissed, slow and sensual, making out like we had all the time in the world. After a long while, we fell asleep in each other’s arms.
The next day was Saturday and when we woke, still holding each other, it was because of the sun streaming through Jake’s window, making the room too bright for sleep. I slipped out of bed and headed to Jake’s bathroom to relieve myself and rummage around for a spare toothbrush. I was relieved to find one under the sink, still in the package, and brushed my teeth before returning to bed, where I found Jake sitting up and scrolling on his phone.
He slid out of bed, smiling widely. “My turn.”
When Jake returned a few minutes later, I found myself watching him curiously. He went about his business getting dressed, and as he pulled a gray T-shirt over his head, he turned to me.
“I have plans for today.”
“Oh.” I scrambled out of bed, nodding. “I’m sorry, I’ll just—”
Jake held up a hand. “No, don’t start that again. I want you to come with me, if you want. We can go as friends or… I don’t know, I can introduce you as my boyfriend if that feels right to you.” His face reddened, muted by his stubble.
“Boyfriend, huh? Yeah, that sounds good.” I slipped on my jeans from the previous night, trying hard not to think about the fact that I’d be leaving in just over a week, if things kept on schedule. We’d figure it out. I was sure we would. Probably. “Where are we going?”
“To meet my parents.”
Chapter Seventeen
Jake
“Your—your parents?” Max sputtered, eyes wide, face turning faintly pink.
I couldn’t stop the grin that spread over my face. “Calm down, it’s not that serious.”
“Jake, I’m not sure about what you do in Port Grandlin, but where I come from, meeting the parentsisserious.”
I ran my fingers through my hair in an attempt to tame it. “It’s not like that. I want to tell them about the letters. Since we know they’renotgoing on the show, I want to get my mom’s perspective on what we should do with them. They’re from her grandfather, after all. I’d also like to hear the rest of the story, to see if she knows anything.”
He finished dressing and came to me, kissing me gently. “If you want to do that, I’m all for it. But do I have to do it wearing yesterday’s clothes?”
I let out a surprised laugh. “Of course not.”
“Good. Then let me at least take a shower and put on something clean.”
“Only if I get to shower with you.”
Max smirked and winked at me. “I don’t know… you might be too distracting to shower with.”
“I’ll behave,” I promised, knowing I had no intention of doing any such thing.
“Sure you will.” He rolled his eyes and led the way out of the bedroom.
A few minutes later, we were at Max’s rental and Sterling was nowhere to be found. “No roommate?”
Max shook his head and grinned slyly. “I told him I was coming home to change and I needed the place to myself.”
I snorted. “And that worked?”
