“Don’t care, I’m drivin’ though.”

I could already see the worry in her eyes without even meeting them. Well, she wanted all of me and this was the condition.

She matched my pace but released my arm. “Are you sure about that, Hunter? You had a lot to drink.”

I continued to walk to my truck, allowing the alcohol to properly consume me before I posed the question. “You live far?”

“About fifteen minutes.”

“Alright then,” I tapped the hood of my truck and unlocked it. “My place.”

I could see the hesitation boiling inside of her, but I knew what I was doing. I’d driven down this road so many times, and I never died. I knew it like the back of my hand. Could be the darkest knight and I’d survive. Could be blindfolded and I’d come out unscathed. I was fucking untouchable. Some people weren’t that lucky.

Before she rounded the truck I grabbed Britt and pulled her towards me, pressing my lips to hers in a gentle motion. If I could ease her fret then I’d do it, cause God only knows I needed to feel something tonight.

Her body melted into mine like jelly. She slid her tongue into my mouth with deep desire, biting down on my bottom lip. At the taste of blood, my adrenaline spiked and I felt my dick hardening beneath my jeans. My fingers traced her curves, outlining her silhouette as she grew hungrier for me.

This is nice. This feels good. I like this. I like this. This is normal. This is hot. I like this.

We made out for a few more minutes before I needed to catch my own breath, guiding her inside the truck and shutting the door.

“Easy does it, baby.”

Once I got situated in the drivers seat, I leaned over and grabbed her seatbelt, clicking it in place and planting one last kiss on her lips before pulling out of the parking lot.

“Aren’t you a gentleman?” She cooed, running her fingers up and down my thigh before they settled atop my groin.

“Safety first, darlin’.” I winked, and reversed my truck, heading in the direction of my place.

The irony in that sentence was hilarious.

Safety first, darlin’,ha. Says the drunk driving with a fucking death wish.

Chapter Five

Marley

Iwas hoping that the bed would’ve been hard as rock, or the pillows weren’t fluffed or I don’t know, an infestation of bed bugs.Anythingto make me hate it and provide a reason to sleep in my car so I wouldn’t burden these people any more than I already have.

But nope. The bed Payton set up for me may have been the most comfortable thing I’d ever laid on in my entire life.

After I had finished eating the cinnamon roll, I sat at the kitchen table for a few minutes before Dex approached me and asked if I wanted any help taking in my luggage. Of course I fought it, but I guess Payton gave him a stern talking to and convinced him to be nice just for the night, even though he would’ve rather swallowed nails.

I tried to say thank you, but he grumbled in response and deposited my luggage like it was a newspaper before slamming the basement door and retreating up the stairs.

I couldn’t believe I accepted the offer, but Payton was so persistent I felt rude refusing. Me, who they owed nothing to, who literally disturbed them in the dead of night, and here I was lounging in their space like it was my own.Do I seriously have any humanity left?

Regardless of how I felt, there was nothing I could do now. I was locked in the privacy of their basement and all I craved was rest.

I took a quick look around and relaxed, inhaling a mix of wood and ash emanating from the lit fireplace against the middle wall. There was a small loveseat positioned next to it with a marble side table that held a candle and some matches.

A bookshelf was positioned in the corner of the wall with only a few novels on war and hunting, while the rest of the shelves were occupied by boat figurines.Huh, cute.

I placed my luggage next to the bed and pulled out some silk pyjama shorts, a tank top and some clean underwear.

My next order of business was upping the battery in my phone. Payton kindly lent me a charger for the night and I just about kissed the ground she walked on.I owe that woman my life.

The shower was calling my name as I slid the power cord into the wall outlet and made my way to the bathroom, peeling off my clothes and hopping into the tub.
