“Is that, everything, then?” Her tone was sharp, curt, but I was too wrapped up in my own thoughts to care.
“Make sure to add a ton of syrup, sweetheart. He likes himself a fruity drink.”
She stormed off and I knocked my knuckles against the table, downing all three shots in one go before turning to Josh. “Be back in a minute.”
“You’re evil!” He called behind me, but I was already stalking towards Bambi and no one was getting in my path.
When I reached my destination, I planted a firm hand between the two lovebirds, leaning my weight towards her.
“I’m goin’ to have to call you cherry from now on.” I teased, my tone filled with disapproval.
Her big brown eyes met mine with –No. No fuckin’ way. No fucking WAY it was her.
I swallowed hard, stepping back to regulate my laboured breaths. Those chocolate spheres, the ones I seen in my climax, the eyes that sent me over the edge… they wereBambi’s? How in the literal fucking hell were they Bambi’s?
“Cat got your tongue, Hunter?” Bambi scowled, wrapping her slender arms around the middle of her dress.
Get your head outta your ass, Hunter, Jesus fuck. It was just a coincidence.
The familiar buzz comforted me as I coughed out a response. “Nope, just a pretty girl in red.”
When I regained my composure, I stepped forward, surveying her like it was my damn job. My eyes roamed over her collarbone that glistened with some sparkly shit. A little music note tattoo was stamped on her skin, the size of a pea. Her flesh was bronzed and glittered like she just stepped out of some award-winning movie.I mean, to be expected. Rich brats always looked like they were polished and ready for a fuckin’ photoshoot.
All the sentiment I was feeling dissipated when I remembered who the hell she really was. A spoiled girl from a big city who stormed into my family’s life, mylife, and expected us to bend the knee.Don’t matter how shiny a ruby, Hunter. They always cut you.
“Pretty?” Her voice was filled with disdain. “Are we playing nice, now?”
Before I could retort, Cracker cleared his throat, forcing me to his attention.
“Hunter, right?” I watched his Adam’s apple rise and fall as he spoke again. “I’m Cramer Hughes, I work with your mom and dad.”
“Step,” I corrected, throwing him a jagged stare. “Stepmom.”
He swallowed in response, fumbling with the two top buttons of his tacky blue shirt. “For the sake of tonight, let’s just call her Payton?”
I couldn’t have been less interested in a conversation.
Turning back to Bambi, I leaned in closer, inhaling the scent of lavender and honey.
“In need of a little rescue sweetheart, or are you trying to get a reaction out of me?”
Her mouth gaped open which amped me up even more.Fuck she was easy to annoy.
“Why the hell would I try and get a reaction out of you, Hunter? Not every girl lives to worship the ground you walk on.”
“Why the hell not?” I stated, wounded at her comment.
“Because you’re rude. And kind of a prick.”
A red hue glowed in her eyes, resembling embers and flames. It brought a rush out of me as I leaned in closer to her ear and whispered, “you got a fire in your eyes, sweetheart. And lucky for you, I’m drawn to the heat.”
I recognized the bearded bartender as Kenton, who regularly worked the shifts now that the other bartender was fired. He trotted over, passing two glasses out – the whisky to Bambi, and whatever the hell kind of cocktail I ordered to Cracker.
“Oh, I didn’t order this.” Bambi waved a manicured hand around the rummer, attempting to return it.
“A gentleman ordered it for you a few minutes back. I’d expect a lot more drinks comin’ your way tonight.”
I caught his eyes roving over her like a damn hawk so I decided to pay for the drink right then and there.
