The man’s face pales.

“All together, I’d say that equals the two million I’ve been searching for.” Shetsks. “This amount is just a small fraction of the hundreds of millions this casino generates yearly. I assume that’s why you thought no one would notice and that you could get away with it. But here we are.” Madeleine’s chair stops moving as she leans forward, pressing a finger to her lip, appearing deep in thought. “Now, what to do?”

“I can… I can give it back!” He struggles in my grip. “I just need some time.”

“And how do you plan on giving it back when you’ve spent it all on prostitutes and cocaine?”

 “But…how? You couldn’t possibly know—”

She abruptly stands, placing the palms of her hands on her desk. “I am an Alarie. We know everything. Because sooner or later, we always find out. And you are just a worthless piece of scum at the bottom of a feeding pond about to discover what happens when you fuck with my family.”

The man appears aghast, his face turning redder by the second. “You think you’re going to teach me a lesson? You?” A vein on the edge of his temple bulges as he squirms relentlessly beneath my hold. “You are nothing but a stupid woman who should be spending her days where she’s useful… like in the kitchen. It took you this long to even realize money was missing because you were probably too busy getting your cunt fucked by your bodyguard over here, you miserable bitch!”

All I see is red as I begin to strangle the life from Angelo, enjoying the look of defeat crossing his eyes.

“You watch your fucking mouth!” I shout. “If you ever say a word about her or dare to look in her direction, I will personallyend you. Piece by fucking piece. Until you’re nothing but a corpse six feet beneath the ground! Do you understand me?”

 Boom!

 Chapter twenty-five

 Madeleine

 Ihate men.

Lowering my gun to my side, I watch as the misogynistic asshole holds his groin, screaming profanities that would make a sailor blush.

“You shot my dick!” he shouts as blood soaks through the front of his pants.

I smirk. “You seem to be under the impression that since I don’t have a cock swinging between my legs, I should be in a kitchen and not here, behind my desk.” I drop my gun in the drawer and place my palms on the smooth wood surface, straightening my spine. “But let me be clear about two things. First, the only thing you will ever find me doing in a kitchen is looking for a takeout menu. Second, you messed with the wrong Alarie.”

Eli drops the man from his hold, letting him fall to the floor as he turns to face me. His eyes darken, grazing over every square inch of my body, inspecting me for any injuries. He approaches, not stopping until he’s standing directly beside me, his rough hand gently cupping my cheek.

 “You did good, Princess.”

 Okay, maybe I was wrong.

 Maybe there’s one man I don’t hate.

 Even if I should.

The office door swings open, and two guards step inside, guns drawn, their eyes scanning the room before settling on Angelo.

I stand tall, smoothing out my skirt. “Take him to our warehouse. My brothers can deal with him later.”

They both nod and quickly escort Angelo out of the room, shutting the door behind them.

Eli steps away from me, positioning himself in front of the door where his hand lifts to turn the lock into place.

My heart thumps wildly beneath my chest as he turns to face me, licking his lips.

“You always keep a gun on you?” he asks, tilting his head to the side.

I nod. “I can’t take any chances,” I say in a ragged breath.

As he steps toward me, I move back until I’m directly against the glass wall. His hand braces the wall beside my head while his other hand grips my chin, his thumb tracing my bottom lip.

He lowers his head to mine, skimming his lips against my ear. “I’d never let anything happen to you. You know that, right?”
