We have a zip line for the guests that offers a beautiful view of the river and mountains. We used to do it all the time and try to beat each other’s times.
“I haven’t done this in forever.”
“Exactly. Let’s get suited up.” I nod for her to climb up and follow behind her.
The guests go through a mini training session before staff let them go, but since it’s just us and we aren’t first-timers, we’re going straight up.
“You better not be lookin’ at my ass.” She tries to glance over her shoulder to catch me.
“It’s right in my face. Where do you want me to look?”
“At the ground. The sky. The trees.”
“Nah, none of ’em are as appealin’ as the view in front of me.”
I wasn’t even staring at her ass…until she mentioned it.
“Warren!” she scolds.
“You act like I haven’t licked hot fudge off that ass. Relax.”
“Oh my God, no!” She climbs on top of the hut where we’ll get ready. “You’re not allowed to talk like that. If I have to suffer through seven days of this, no sex talk or mentions ofwhat we used to do.”
“Shit, I wish you had told me that sooner. Kinda puts a damper on the plans I had for later of watchin’ our old dirty home movies.”
She swats my arm when I reach her. “That’s not funny.”
“Jesus, Maze. Is this you tryin’ to convince me you’renotstuck-up? Where’d your sense of humor go?”
I’m usually the one being told to lighten up, so this is a weird change of pace.
“Can we set some boundaries, please? I agreed to this so you’d see we’re over and that you need to move on. But I’m not gonna listen to you reminisce about our past sex life. That’s off-limits.”
“Okay, fine.” I tower above her, lifting a brow as she meets my gaze. “But that goes both ways. No lookin’ at my ass either.”
She rolls her eyes, crossing her arms. “Not gonna be an issue on my end.”
“Great.” I smirk. “Am I allowed to help you into the harness or is that breakin’ some unspoken rule you haven’t told me about yet?”
Her tongue pokes out between her lips and I can tell she wants to respond with a smart-ass comment. “As long as you keep your eyes and hands above my waist.”
My eyes lower to her chest, purposely taunting to get a reaction out of her.
“Not there either.”
I chuckle, shaking my head.
Grabbing the harness, she avoids my gaze as I help her into it and make sure she’s secure.
“Feel okay?” I ask, giving the ropes and belts a tug.
“I think so.”
“Hey, sorry I’m late!” Asher, one of thestaffers from the resort, meets us on the platform. I gave him a heads-up I’d be bringing someone before he took his last break.
“No worries. Asher, this is Maisie.”
“Hey, nice to meet ya.” He shakes her hand, then grabs two helmets and two sets of gloves.
