“That’s cool. I just started workin’ at Posey’s goat farm.”
“She told me! How’re you likin’ it so far?”
“Not bad. It gets hot and dirty, but I don’t mind it.”
“I’ll have to come visit sometime.” She trails her fingers up my chest. “You can show me ’round. I’d love to play with the goats!”
“Sure.” I smile but it doesn’t reach my eyes. “You’ll have to give me your number.”
“Gimme your phone!” She holds out her palm and I pull it out of my pocket.
As soon as she enters her contact info, she texts herself so she has mine.
“Hopefully we can plan somethin’ soon.” She hands it back. “I’m available most evenings after five and weekends.”
“Sounds good, me too.”
We continue dancing for several songs until I break away to get some water. Since I’m driving, I stopped drinking a while ago.
“My brother’s comin’ to pick me up soon. I’ll introduce y’all.”
“Tonight? I need to freshen up then.” Posey takes her hand and drags her toward the bathroom.
“So this is fun…” Corinne drawls.
“Mm-hmm,” I mutter.
“Jamie seems nice,” Sabrina says. “Gorgeous too.”
“Very,” Celeste agrees. “Not a thought in her pretty little head though.”
“You don’t even know her,” I argue. “She has a college degree and works at her dad’s law firm.”
“So? Sabrina has one too but still thought we had fifty-two states up until she was twenty-one.” She chuckles, making the rest of us laugh too.
“Hey!” Sabrina pushes her shoulder slightly. “That’s ’cause you lied and told me that so I’d fail my history test.”
“Perks of being the oldest sister who already knew what was on the test.” Celeste laughs.
“I say give her a chance…” Corinne says, nodding toward Jamie when she and Posey return. “And maybe a double date won’t be so bad. If anythin’, you’ll get more experience.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” I shrug, though I’m not looking for anything serious, it might help get myself back out there.
They announce last call and the girls flock to the bar for one last drink. I’ve lost count of how many Posey’s had but there’s no doubt she’s going to feel it tomorrow.
Oliver arrives to pick up my sisters since they’re all staying at Corinne’s tonight. I help get them all in his truck as they stumble over themselves.
“Y’all have fun?” he asks.
“I think I’m gonna throw up,” Celeste murmurs, her head bobbing from side to side.
“Why’re you drivin’ so fast?” Sabrina mutters, plastering her face against the window.
“I haven’t even started the truck.” Oliver shakes his head. “Y’all gonna be sick as shit in the mornin’.”
I smack him on the shoulder. “Good luck with ’em. I gotta find Posey and Jamie.”
“You brought two dates? Thatta boy.” He smacks me back.
