“I only met her once but from what Silas has told me, she wasn’t very nice to him and made him feel like he wasn’t good enough.”

“Wow, really? That’s sad.”

“Actually…their weddin’ was set to happen today.” I mentally smack myself because I forgot until right now and never asked how he was doing with it before I left.

“Well, hopefully he’ll have a much better night out with us than he would’ve on his weddin’ night.” She giggles. “I’m so grateful Jackson and his ex didn’t have kids so he wasn’t stuck with her forever.”

“How long were they married?”

“Four years but together for six.”

“Has he dated since it ended?”

“A little but not much. He uses his job as an excuse to stay busy and avoid gettin’ his heart broken again.”

“Oh…” I frown at how relatable that is.

“Yeah, but don’t worry! He’s excited for tonight.”

“That’s good.”

“How long was Silas with his ex?”

“Two years.”

“The longest I’ve been with someone was eight months but it’s not ’cause I haven’t tried. The men ‘round here aren’t very marriage material. I’m lucky if they contribute to a conversation and ask questions versus me doin’ all the talkin’.”

I snort in agreement. “Tell me about it.”

“Do you think it’s too soon for him to date?” she asks once we move to get our nails done.

“No,” I reply honestly. “I think once he realized how awful she’d been to him and deserved better, he knew it was time to move on. He only brought a few suitcases and his truck ’cause he got rid of everythin’ else but he seems to be doin’ okay. At least from what I can see.”

“It’s never too late to start fresh, so it’s nice he has you to help give him that.”

I glance away so she doesn’t see my face heat.

Once our nails are done, we walk to one of the nicer boutiques in town and try on dresses.

“You look so hot in that! Definitely that one!” Jamie’s jaw drops when I twirl in a black backless mini dress. My tattoo peeks out just enough so you can tell it’s there. It has a high neckline that wraps around my neck and exposes my arms and shoulders.

“You don’t think it’s too much skin for the place we’re goin’?”I ask, glancing over my shoulder to look in the mirror. There’s two thin straps that lead up to the neckline to hold it up but otherwise my back is fully exposed.

“No…it’s perfect. You look amazin’.”

“Okay, I’ll get it.”

Butterflies swarm my stomach at the thought of Silas seeing me in this. Even though he’s seen me in less and has touched every inch of my naked body before, this dress is seductive and flirty.

I mentally slap myself when I realize I should be more concerned about Jackson’s reaction.

Jamie tries on a few dresses and is gorgeous in all of them. Her dark hair looks best with the red dress, so she picks that one. It has a plunging neckline that shows off her chest without revealing too much. Silas will love it.

Once I find new shoes to go with the dress, we check out and hug goodbye. We have a few hours before our reservation, so I have enough time for an everything shower and to get ready without rushing.

When I arrive home, Silas’s truck isn’t in the driveway so I don’t go looking for him. I didn’t ask what his plans were for the day, so he could be anywhere.

“Posey?” Knocking on my bedroom door grabs my attention, and I turn down my music to make sure I heard correctly.
