“Ahhhh, Eli! Harder, harder.”
And he was there for me, fucking me harder and harder, holding me tighter and tighter until I unraveled in his arms. The orgasm started from the inside then rolled throughout my body in a way I didn’t know I had ever felt before.
I felt the sting of his teeth on my neck, heard his growl and knew he had followed me into the abyss of pleasure.
He was right. Taking that ride together was way better. I had this crazy thought that maybe I would never have to fake an orgasm with Eli ever. That I could always just tell him what I needed, and he would give it me.
Then I considered how ridiculous that was.
After all, I was nothing but a fake and it was getting harder and harder to keep that from him.

I watched Angel walk across the rec room toward the hallway leading to his room. It had been three days since I had last seen him at Bud’s. He walked with the loose and easy gait of man who was getting laid regular. Not like how it normally happened for us. A one-night hook up, maybe followed by a morning quickie before hauling ass back to the frozen tundra.
No, Eli looked like a sated man. A man who had all the time in the world with his woman. And he was fucking smiling.
I thought about the woman who should be arriving two days from now. Doogie was bringing her here before he flew Shelby out. I thought about what might happen between us.
I didn’t imagine a scenario where I ended up looking like Eli. Smiling like Eli.
Damn, how the hell had it happened for him so fast? Maybe I should have seen that coming. Predicted that he was ripe to fall for the first beautiful woman with a nice smile who looked at him like he might live up to his nickname and save her.
This whole stupid contest. Bringing the women here. It was supposed to be a lark.
Only I knew it wasn’t because I had an agenda.
I followed Eli to his room. When I got there, his door was open. He had a duffel bag open on the bed and was pulling out clothes. I might have thought that it was a good sign he was unpacking.
Except he was still smiling.
“Coming back for a few days? Need a break?”
He lifted his head, surprised to see me. “Jesus, you’re so fucking quiet, Jackson. You’re like Mountain Man the way you move. Nah, I’m just unpacking dirty and getting clean clothes.” He held up a shirt. “What are the odds I can get a rookie to do my laundry?”
“The way those guys look up to you, I would be worried they might sniff your clothes or some shit like that.”
He laughed. “Yeah, they’re probably going to miss me when I’m gone.”
“Gone?”
“It’s not a done deal,” Eli said even as he started taking clean clothes out of drawers and shoving them into his bag. “We’ll have to see how she handles the winter. But being from the South I can’t see her making it through the dark and cold. I don’t know though. She’s surprised me already with what a trooper she is.”
“Eli, what the fuck are you saying? Shelby is leaving in two days.”
He looked at me as he shook his head. “No, she isn’t because I’m going to ask her to stay. And if she can’t handle living up here, then I’m following her back to the Lower 48.”
This was not happening. “Dude, you cannot be serious.”
“As serious as I’ve ever been about anything,” he said confidently. “She makes me happy.”
“You’re fucking happy all the time,” I pointed out. I was the brooding asshole of the four us. Everyone knew that. We all had our roles. Ark was the brain, Cal was the boss, and Angel was the easygoing one. I filled out our quartet perfectly.
“No,” he said. “I smile a lot. Let shit roll off my back a lot. But that’s not like this. Not like being with someone who gets me. Shelby is the real deal and I’m not letting her go.”
