I’m not naive. I realize there’s something more than just platonic friendship between us. I know we both feel the buzz of an electric attraction, but I also want him to know, in the clearest possible terms, that friendship is all I want between us.

For a second, I think he might say something, maybe push the matter, but he exhales heavily and the moment passes.

He parks in my garage and I tell him I’m okay to take Lisset up to bed. I’m not quite ready for Gideon Walker to be inside my house.

Kate:Very interesting.

Tess:Aaron has concerns about Gideon.

Tess:Gideon’s fancy Rolex is number one.

Kate:His watch?

Tess:His VERY expensive watch.

Tess:I totally am. Just relaying concerns.

Kate:Noted.

Tess:One thing I do know. That man is smitten with you.

Tess:The whole of last night he couldn’t keep his eyes off you. And the way he is with Lisset melts my heart. Aaron will come around.

Kate:Stop. Gideon and me, we’re not happening.

Tess:Keep telling yourself that.

Kate:I’m telling YOU that.

Tess:Aren’t you lonely?

Kate:Sometimes. But I have Lisset.

Tess:Who you’re raising to leave home one day. And then what?
