“Oh, for God’s sake,” Penelope spat out.“We were children before.”
“You knew exactly what you were doing and knew it was hurting me, but you loved it.There was no remorse from you or our parents, who encouraged it.”
“We wanted to toughen you up,” Aubrey said.
“Bullshit,” Camila said.“Nothing you did was for my benefit, you just enjoyed abusing someone smaller than you.Besides, how is tying your sister to the bed and sticking her with pins until Mom called us down for dinner helping me?And that wasn’t even the worst.”
Aubrey shrugged.“Maybe you should have been tougher.”
“Penelope is five years older, and you’re four years older than me, besides the fact that I’m half your size.”
Penelope chuckled.“I wouldn’t go that far, sister.I still see you’ve not been able to get rid of the fat.”
That would have hurt her if she hadn’t known how much her husband desired her. Before she opened her mouth, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Camila called out.
Shana walked into the room, and Camila could tell she was angry about something.
“What do you need, Shana?”
“Nothing, Miss Camila.I just wanted you to know that Lucia has set some refreshments out on the back patio for you three.”
Camila exhaled and stood.“Thank you, Shana.”She turned to her sisters.“Let’s go out back. It’s very beautiful.”
She could tell her sisters weren’t happy, but she didn’t care. They stood and headed for the door before Camila stuck the papers into a secret compartment in the desk. There is no way they’d be able to find them if they tried.
She followed them, and as she stepped outside, she inhaled. The back of the house was so pretty with a million different flowers that she’d help plant.
She could tell that with each passing minute, her sisters were growing increasingly envious of her, and they hated it.Knowing them, she expected them to become meaner as the day progressed.
Luckily, she wasn’t alone this time.
Chapter Four
Camila looked aroundfor her sisters. She saw them peeking through a window and rolled her eyes.“Come sit. It’s the perfect day for lemonade.”
