“Oh, right,” Brent said. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

Berkley giggled. He was right: it was old-fashioned. It was also incredibly sweet and endearing. “Of course I will,” she said and kissed him. Then she turned herself so she was curled into his side and drifted off to a dreamless sleep.

Chapter Fifteen

Brent

Since Brent was out on concussion protocol for another few weeks and Berkley was still out of town, he used the downtime in his schedule to work on getting FLEX ready for its spring and summer product launch.

His headaches had almost completely disappeared, but he found he could only do computer work for short stretches of time, and he always had to wear his blue-light-blocking glasses. Settling into a routine, he worked for thirty minutes before taking a break to dial his sister.

Unfortunately, after the stunt Anna had pulled at the Warriors Winter Gala, he would be terminating her contract, which would require him to hire someone new but equally as recognizable to take her place going forward.

“Hey, B,” Mackenzie said when she answered. “What’s up?”

“I need help,” he said.

“With?”

“We need to find a new female face for FLEX before it gets too late to do this photoshoot and we have to push the spring and summer launch back.”

“Why?” Mackenzie asked. A horn blared in the background, and his sister yelled an expletive back. “What happened with Anna?”

“Breach of contract.”

“You’re going to have to give me a little more than that, big bro. I know you’re handling the business side of this thing, but I do have some skin in the game too.”

Brent sighed. “She basically attacked me at the Warriors Winter Gala,” he said.

“Attacked how?”

“Attacked as in cornered me in the men’s room, kept trying to kiss me and grab my dick, and repeatedly ignored me when I told her no. Finally, I had to physically move her and threaten to have security escort her out if she didn’t leave of her own free will.”

“Holy shit,” Mackenzie said. “I’m sorry, B. I thought she was like…normal.”

Brent laughed. “She probably is. She just didn’t like taking no for an answer. She thought I was lying to her when I told her I was with someone, even though I said it several times.”

“Okay, so how the hell are you going to prove it?”

“Prove what?”

“That she’s in breach of contract?”

“That’s my lawyer’s job,” he said, picking up his phone to scroll through his contacts for the number. “So here’s what’s going to happen. You, my dear, sweet little sister, are going to search Instagram for someone to fill Anna’s shoes. I’ll handle pitching them since, no offense, I have a little more clout than you do.”

Mackenzie sighed, and Brent could practically hear the eye roll. He smiled. “And what are you going to do?” she asked.

“I’m going to call my lawyer!”

“Oh, right. That’s pretty important.”

“Sure is. Okay, kid, call me when you’ve got something!”

“Will do, B. Love you.”

“Love you too.”

He hung up and dialed his lawyer, leaving a message with his assistant. When that call ended, he checked his watch.
