She bent down and quickly stuffed her legs back into her pants, tucking her thong into her pocket before padding away from him to retrieve her sweater from across the room.

“Well, this was fun,” she said, standing on her tiptoes to peck him on the cheek before strutting toward his door.

“Wait…” Mitch said, catching up with her and snagging her wrist in his hand. “That’s it?”

Lexie nodded. “That’s it. What did you expect? I told you this was just sex.”

“Well, yeah, but I didn’t think that meant we’d fuck like animals against a wall and then you’d walk out.”

Lexie shrugged. “Then what did you think? That we’d crawl into bed and cuddle and talk?”

“I mean not exactly but I figured we’d go more than one round.”

“Look I’m sorry if you thought this was going to be something different, but I warned you.”

He was dumbfounded, a deer caught in headlights. “I suppose you did,” he said quietly.

She nodded. “See you later.”

In the hallway, she made her way to the elevator, smirking to herself as she waited for it to reach Mitch’s floor. She got exactly what she had come here for: multiple orgasms with a ridiculously sexy man and no emotional connection. It had been quick and dirty, exactly how she liked it.

Or…how sheusuallyliked it. Quite frankly, she was proud of the display she had put on when walking out of his apartment. The outwardly cavalier attitude she had given him was completely at odds with the tangle of emotions that had set up camp in her chest and stomach. Sex against a wall should not have been good enough to get her off even once, let alone twice, especially not so quickly. It was a feat no man before Mitch had ever accomplished; Lexie had long gotten good at faking it.

Something about Mitch was different. They hardly knew each other, but some piece of him spoke to some long-buried piece of her—a piece she hadn’t even known existed.

Leaving the way she did wasn’t something she was proud of, but…it was the only way to protect her heart.

But despite, or perhapsin spiteof, the foreign clench in her chest, Lexie knew she’d be back for more.

Ithadbeenafew weeks since the first—and last—time Mitch had fucked Lexie, and he couldn’t stop thinking about her or that night. Every time he walked into his apartment, he was greeted by the blank stretch of wall where it all went down, and his dick instantly hardened with the memories that flooded in.

He had to have her again.

Soon.

Immediately.

It was New Year’s Eve, and the Warriors had a game at home that night against the New York Lakers, so Mitch decided it was the perfect opportunity to get Lexie in his bed afterward.

She hadn’t spoken to him much since the night they hooked up. Though he had texted her a few times trying to make plans, she was never available, citing being out of town for work or simply too busy.

Given that she traveled about as much as he did, he was willing to take her word for it, but he couldn’t help feeling she was blowing him off. Especially after the way she had left his apartment that night.

He was completely on board with a purely physical relationship between them. That wasn’t the thing that was tripping him up about this girl. No, what was tripping him up was the way she had so brazenly taken what she wanted from him—two incredible orgasms if he did say so himself—and then bounced without a backward glance.

Given the number of times he had done that exact same thing to women, it was unsettling to be on the receiving end of such behavior.

But that was beside the point. Tonight, he would have Lexie wet and willingly spread out underneath him. And then he was going to take his time with her, teasing her until she was begging him to make her come.

Payback and all that.

He called the box office at the arena and had the attendant set aside two tickets for her and a friend. Berkley was out of town, but Mitch figured Lexie wouldn’t want to show up alone to a hockey game anyway.

Then he texted her.

By the time Mitch needed to leave for the arena or risk being late for pregame warm-ups and meetings, she still hadn’t responded, but he refused to read too much into it. It was last minute, and maybe she had other plans.

The promise of sex should be a sure-fire way to guarantee she showed up, so Mitch put the worries out of his mind. Without a doubt, he knew the sex between them was different. It had never been like that with anyone else before, and he wanted more.
