Bestie: Love you bitchhhhh!
Sighing, I set my phone down beside me and propped myself up on my elbows. I guess I wasn’t going anywhere. Instead, I decided to shower and freshen up before unpacking. Although there was plenty to throw me off my square, I wasn’t going tohide from it. I’d told my daddy I would cook for him and bring him a plate tomorrow, so I wanted to get my food marinating. Knowing that Nadia was lurking in some corner of this house left me on guard, but I wasn’t about to move like some punk bitch. If she wanted smoke, she could get it. It was one thing to be employed around here, but she wasn’t about to treat me like the help or think I was standing for any kind of disrespect now that I was the lady of the house.
Brick
Six hadn’t said a word since we arrived home. I carried her upstairs to my bedroom and helped her undress, but it was like she was in a trance. Her eyes were red and glossy, so I assumed she’d probably been drugged. I didn’t want to push or pry, scared that she might just snap altogether. Instead, I ran a hot bath for her and helped her into it. She didn’t even object to a nigga seeing her naked. Something flickered behind her gaze when she realized what was happening, but she didn’t stop me.The whole time she just looked broken, like she wanted to burst into tears at any given moment, and that shit pissed me off.
Of course, I was sensitive to the situation, but there was no denying my hard dick when I got to see her in her birthday suit. She was perfect, but I noticed little blemishes here and there, old scars that told a story I was curious about because of the placement. Some on her wrists or ankles, like she’d been constrained at one point or another. She sat forward in the clawfoot tub in my bathroom, a hand gripping each side while staring off ahead. I washed her back with some soothing lavender Olay body wash, filling the entire room with the intoxicating aroma as I cleansed her.
“I’m sorry.” I cleared my throat and rinsed her body with more warm water.
“This isn’t your fault,” she croaked, wrapping her arms around her legs and hugging them into her chest.
“What happened to you? Did they hurt you?” I asked, not really wanting to know the answer.
I could tolerate a lot of shit, but if someone violated her, I was sure to fucking snap.
“I just want to go to sleep, Brick. Please.” She sniffled and slowly brought herself to her feet in the tub.
Seeing her drenched body in full length had my shit bricking up again. I reached for the towel behind me on the sink counter and handed it to her. She tucked it around herself before climbing out of the water and padding to the door to leave. Armon had been blowing me up all night, but I’d been keeping him on ice until I found Six. I didn’t have time to talk about this image he had us upholding when her life was on the line. Now that I had time to catch my breath and I knew Six was good, I decided to answer.
“What’s good?” I pressed the phone against my ear and walked over to the walk-in shower.
“We need to meet in the morning, Brick. I know tonight you had some shit going on, so I ain’t trying to add to that. Is Six OK?”
“She is now. It’s been a long night like you said though. Just hit me in the morning when you ready to come through.” I reached into the glass encasing and cut the water on.
“Say less.” Armon and I hung up, and I watched the water fall from the ceiling spout before stripping myself of my shirt and pants.
I stepped inside and let the water cascade against me. Lifting my head, I closed my eyes and thanked God for pulling us out of this mess tonight. Shit could have been a lot worse. The bottomline was that Six was OK. Everything else we could work on. Knowing she was just a few steps away gave me peace.
I spent another ten minutes washing and rinsing myself before jumping out into the steam-filled room. Snatching a fresh towel off the shelf, I patted myself dry before looping the towel around my waist. Brushing and flossing took another few minutes, and when I emerged inside my bedroom, I found the only light glowing from the lamp on the bedside table on my side of the bed. Six was curled up under the covers on her side, one hand tucked under her head. She wasn’t sleep, just staring off as if she was somewhere else.
“You saved my life tonight,” she whispered when I sat on the edge of the bed in front of her.
“I’d do it again.” I placed an arm behind her.
“Why?”
“What you mean why?” My brows merged above my questioning eyes. “The last thing you are is dumb, mama. You know why. This shit might have started as us playing it up for the cameras, but I fuck with you for real.”
“I’ve never had anybody go above and beyond like that for me,” she muttered with misting eyes. “I thought I was going to get shipped off somewhere and I would never see you again. I was praying that you found me, but I knew it was crazy. When I looked out and saw you standing there, I thought I was imagining you.”
“You can thank my brothers for all the chaos and confusion. They held me down with no questions. Well, they both thought I was crazy coming up in there by myself, but I knew it had to be me. And we gon’ find that bitch ass nigga Skully and take care of this once and for all. I just need you to stay on point and pay attention to your surroundings. He got close once, but that won’t happen again.”
“I’m so tired,” Six whined, eyes closing slowly.
“You sure you don’t want anything to eat?”
“No. I just want you to get up here and hold me while I sleep,” she requested.
I climbed in behind her, deciding I would get dressed after she fell asleep. Whatever she needed, that’s what I was on. It took about twenty minutes for her to start snoring in my arms, and I knew she was done. I slipped out of bed, moisturized my body, and put on a pair of joggers and my slides. I was starving, so I decided to head downstairs and grab something to eat. Strolling past the living room, I smelled those damn black cigarettes Rossi be on and paused. She sat in the darkened room surrounded by smoke and staring out one of the windows facing the back of the estate.I caught a glimpse of the moon illuminating the fields as a few of the horses galloped around aimlessly.
“Ma? What you doing up?”
“Couldn’t sleep,” she answered but never turned to me. “How is Six?”
“Finally went to sleep,” I sighed, padding into the room and coming up behind her. “You should be in bed.” I reached up to massage her shoulders.
