Another yawn forced its way out of my mouth while I pulled my pants on.
We walked quietly through the apartment and I grabbed my key on the way out so I could lock Jayme in.
I reached for Dyani’s hand and she slipped her fingers between mine while we walked to the elevator. We had a slow ride up, with her head resting on my shoulder.
I walked her to her door and somehow ended up yawning again.
“Go back up and go to sleep.” Dyani laughed. “Goodnight.”
I didn’t laugh with her.
“You good?”
“What?” She blinked up at me. “Why wouldn’t I be okay?”
“I don’t know, but I do know I want to come inside, if that’s okay with you.”
Dyani’s eyebrows knitted together but she took a step back and gestured for me to walk inside.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“Yeah. I just don’t feel right about letting you spend the night alone after what we just did,” I admitted. “It makes me feel gross and a lil fucked up to be honest.”
“Arris—”
I cut her off. “Let me just hang out until you fall asleep. Then I’ll head back to Jayme’s spot.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
“Alright.”
I went with Dyani to her bedroom. She fell into bed and I sat against her wall, not seeing the point in stripping and climbing into her bed just to be here for twenty minutes.
She lay on her hands and looked at me. I gave her a small smile.
“You’re really going to sit there until I fall asleep?”
“That’s right.”
Dyani closed her eyes but I saw the corners of her mouth tilt upward.
“Dyani,” I said quietly and waited for her to open her eyes. “You good for real?”
“I’m better than good.”
I nodded but didn’t say anything.
She snuggled into her blankets and was passed out in less than ten minutes.
I hopped up and headed out, locking her door before making my way back to Jayme’s spot and climbing into bed with her.
She reached for me as soon as I got comfortable, like that shit was instinct. I wrapped an arm around her and pulled her body back against mine. I kissed the back of her head and let my eyes flutter shut.
