“Alright.” He nodded. “I’ll let you be but I want you to know that I’m happy for you two and I’m cheering for y’all.”
“Thanks, Daddy.”
“You welcome, baby.” He exhaled. “So does this mean you’re giving up on the whole homosexuality thing?”
“Not exactly,” I admitted. He lifted an eyebrow. “There is a woman involved.”
“Involved in what?”
“Me and Arris.”
My dad blinked at me and sat up taller in his seat.
“What does that mean, Jayme?”
We both paused and looked back as the door handle rattled then knocking sounded throughout the apartment. I wiped my hands on a towel before rushing to the door. I peeked out and ripped the door open to let Arris in. He leaned down and kissed me quickly.
His eyebrows knitted together.
“What’s up with the door?”
“I had the locks changed.”
“For what?” Arris pushed the door shut and locked it.
“I got into it with Reena today.” I shifted on my feet. “Me and Dyani jumped her.”
“You and Dyani?” he repeated.
“Yep.” I grimaced and Arris chuckled and shook his head.
“That’s crazy.” He braced himself as Blake ran full speed out of his room. He plucked our son up and flipped him upside down. “What’s up, man?” He walked further inside and did a double take when he saw my dad. “Hey.” He flipped Blake up onto his shoulder and walked over to my dad to dap him up.
“Hey, Arris. How are you?”
“I’m good. How are you?”
“Pretty good myself. I can’t complain.” He snatched up a key for my new lock and offered it to Arris, his eyes on me the entire time.
I snickered but didn’t comment. I just went back to cooking.
“So I’m assuming Jayme told you that we’re trying things out again.”
“Something like that.” My dad pushed away from the island and hopped up. “It’s always a pleasure to see you, man.” He dapped Arris up. “I was just sitting around but it’s about time for me to head on home.”
“Please don’t tell me you stayed here until Arris got here because you didn’t want me to be alone.”
“Alright. I won’t tell you.” He circled the island and hugged me. “Be careful and if you need me, call me.”
“Always do and always will.”
“Good. Goodnight, y’all.” He pinched Blake lightly and high fived him with both hands before he headed out.
Arris walked him out then came back and set Blake back on the ground.
“Do you want to do the puzzle?” Blake asked.
“Hell yeah.” Arris nodded. “Go grab it and set us up in the living room and I’ll meet you in there.”
