“How long have you been coming to clubs, doll?”

“Um—only a few months. This is the only one I’ve ever been to.” As long as we stayed on the topic of the present, I was good.

“Good girl. How long have you lived in Denver?”

“About a year, Sir.”

“Where did you move from?”

I stiffened. “I—“

Logan rocked me slightly in his arms. “Go on, doll.”

I peeked at his face. He didn’t look angry or even impatient. I swallowed hard. “I’m not ready to share.”

Logan landed a kiss on top of my head. “Good girl. Thank you for telling me.”

He wasn’t going to push? I relaxed into his warmth.

“Do you have any tattoos?”

I laughed. “You’ve seen me naked! You’d know!”

Logan grinned. “The lights were pretty low, love. You’d be cute with a tattoo.”

We sat together in silence for a few moments.

Logan cleared his throat. “When you come stay at the ranch to help with Lena, is there anything special you need? Like, a certain food you like, or a special shampoo or anything?”

He wanted to know if I needed special shampoo? I smiled to myself. For such an intimidating Dom, he was pretty sweet. I shook my head, then remembered, sitting up straighter. “Bailey! I have to bring her too.”

Logan’s brows knit together. “Who’s Bailey?”

“My dog. I bring her everywhere. I mean, not to the club, obviously, but she comes to the barn with me every day. She’s great around horses.”

“Then we’ll make sure we have everything we need for Bailey.” Logan shifted slightly, tucking the blanket around me. “Is this still something you’re okay with, love? Coming to the ranch to help with Lena for a couple weeks?”

I nodded. If he didn’t push for answers I wasn’t ready to give. Other than digging into my past, I’d give anything for more time with this man.“I’ll talk to the owners at the barn where I work, too. Maybe they can give me some time off. There aren’t many lessons in the winter, anyway. They should be able to handle things.”

Logan nodded, his chin grazing my temple. “There are plenty of horses at the ranch, too, if you want to ride.”

I sucked in a sharp breath, and Logan frowned.Crap.He’d noticed.

“How long have you been riding horses?”

Oh god. He was asking the wrong things. I couldn’t talk about this.

I pulled in a breath. He’d given me an out, hadn’t he?

“I’m not ready to—to share that.” I held my breath after I forced the words out. What would he do with this?

Logan just pulled me close.

Bailey bounded around the barn while I did my chores Saturday morning. I’d called the owners, a couple in their fifties, and explained the situation with Lena. They wholeheartedly supported me helping a horse. Horse people had one weakness—horses. We were a predictable lot. They offered me time off for as long as I needed, assuring me that my job would be safe when I was back.

I stopped by Shadow’s stall on my way out of the barn. I tried not to have favorites, but the grey mare was my favorite horse.

“Hey, Shadow. How are you, beautiful?” I held out a peppermint.
